Comptech Supercharger w/ Aftercooler CARB?
Sorry to rant but with all the public news that the Comptech Supercharger for the AP2 is Carb legal, you would think it should be an easy SMOG check but NO WAY!
I bought this car used and was trying to get it SMOG'd at a local norcal place. The guys first tell me it's not legal. After I showed them the documents and CARB numbers they pull it up on the ARB (Air Resource Board) and it lists only the 2004 s2000 and has a list of all the parts but not the supercharger itself.
I'm like WTF!
He gets on the phone with Comptech to get the numbers since apparently the Comptech Website numbers are not good enough. He says it's not listed correctly since there is an actual number on the supercharger and also one on the black bracket. At this point it looks like they are scared of doing the car since he really wants to verify things....
He just called me right now and tells me Comptech needs to provide a CARB sticker and that it's missing on the car. Does anyone here have a picture of what he's talking about?
To make a long story short, I call up Comptech myself about this sticker and the sales guy says YES we have it but it should have came with the car. At this point I'm ready to punch someone so I tell him if I can get one and he says that will cost you $2.00 - I can't believe they will charge you $2.00 for a sticker when you already spent like $7k plus with them for their parts.
No point in arguing so I tell the sales guy to send me two stickers....OMG - this is so much BS for a lousy carb certification on a part that is supposedly CARB legal.
I can only imagine what you guys with turbos have to go through.....how do you guys deal with this?
Am I just overeacting on this...............
ok that's it

I love Oregon DEQ stations
This place is actually a friendly place and have done many of my cars with no issue - they went beyond the norm in calling the place and helping me out as much as they could but I know they didn't want to risk trouble either.
I think this is more Comptech's fault since they are marketing something that is supposedly CARB legal and there is a TON of fine print....you guys should go read it both on Comptech's site and also the ARB board (governing body for CA air).
And then to cap it off and charge $2.00 for a decal is totally bad customer service. I paid but had no choice....still made about it.

CA blows. I hear they can give you a ticket for having anything attached to your windshield, like a suction mount GPS, gay! Oh, and S2000's look totally stupid with front plates, more gay!

Last Saturday and Sunday were two days of near-60 degree weather, not a cloud in the sky, perfect weather for cruising. Needless to say, I put on over 200 miles on the S2K last weekend in Foothill Wine Country, top down the whole time. I even got a little bit of sunburn - not enough sun block. Gotta love Januarys in CA! The less cars on the road, the better! Please - stay away!

But back on topic, thanks for bringing these issues up. I was considering adding a Comptech S/C later on and this is something to consider. Good luck in getting it resolved. In fact, on my way to Foothill wine country, I drove right by Comptech on Sunday...I could've stopped in and given them a
