newer is better, over the years the car hasn't changed much and has had a few tweaks here and there, suspension, little more torque, glass rear window, vsa.....blah blah blah, buy the newest car you can afford.

Thanks Shockwave, that's good info!! I think I'd be happy with an 03 (because of the glass rear window) or an 04-05. I don't want to narrow my search too much. I think over all a AP2 is what I'm shooting for!
Two good picks Have you met up with some s2000 owners in your area? If not try to go checkout a meet. Might be able to get a better feel for the cars if you can check them out without having a salesman breathing down your neck. Also, having a bunch of different colors and knowledgeable owners in one place may be invaluable for helping you make your decision.

if you want an ap2 and want to mod/make it faster, get an 06+, will be cheaper/easier in the long run due to flashpro

For me its AP1 all the way. I wouldn't hold anything against the AP2 if they would have called it the s2200. I am picky about the stupidest things but the s2000 was called the s2000 for a reason... aka the s500, s600, and s800. I was disappointed with Honda when the AP2 came out, still trying to forgive them. I do understand the marketing strategy with keeping the s2000 name but... c'mon. So anyone that has an AP2, put an s2200 badge on it and I will shut up... until then . Oh and... I agree with the rest, drive both and see what YOU like.

If you want 9K 03 is the year to buy.

If you want easier to drive suspension and new body look get the 04-05.
This makes no sense. How is an '03 better than an '02? Sure it's one year newer (but still old), but that logic disappears in your next statement.

Are you mad because your car isn't called the S1997?

They rounded to 2000.

You could say they rounded 2200 to 2000 and then "S2000" would be accurate to one significant digit.

Problem solved. You can find more important things to be mad about now.

The fact that the 2.2l version of this car exists, to me, is annoying. The car was designed around that 9krpm rev range, and sacrificing 1k+ rpms, for a few FT/LBs of torque is absolutely retarded if you ask me.
How is the car designed around the rev range? I understand the AP1 makes more power than the AP2 (after the F22C1 has hit the 8200rpm cutout ) but doesn't the AP2 make more power at every point before that? It seems like as long as the gearing is appropriate for the power band, the engine should be perfectly appropriate for the car.

I'm not trying to start an AP1 vs AP2 conversation, I'm just wondering why you think the vehicle dynamics are better with 1000 rpms more available engine speed?
