Default Considering a new S2000. need help, please!!!

Hello,
My name is Mark, I live in western NY. I've owned Hondas for the past 12 years. Super happy with them. I'm considering purchasing a new S2000. I have many questions & concerns. I hope you can help me out. Have you had any of these concerns? Do you have any regrets about your purchase?
One of the things I love about the Hondas Ive owned in the past is their great quality & flawless reliability. Now since the S2000 is an extremely high performance vehicle & limited production. Do you feel I can expect the same Honda quality? I didn't have a concern on this issue until I started reading this message board & I found some of you are reporting problems. I have to admit, I'd be stretching my budget to the max to get this car & It would crush me having high repair bills.
I would be using this car as my every day driver, including several road trips per year. (8 months per year - stored winters). How would you rate this car as an everyday driver? Is it suitable on trips?
Do you have any concerns bringing your cars in for service?
I must admit I have concerns about buying this car. $32k+ is a lot of money for me. BUT I WILL TELL YOU THIS, EVERY TIME I SEE THAT CAR MY HEART RACING & I BREAK OUT INTO A COLD SWEAT. I LOVE THAT CAR, I WANT THAT CAR!! Do you think its the right car for me?

After reading your post, although I think the Honda is super reliable, I don't think I would recommend this car for you right now just because you are saying you will be stretched to the max. to purchase this car. Even though the car may not give you any trouble in extra repair bills, you never know when you may need some extra $ and having a car put you in a difficult position is probably not worth it...I don't think you would enjoy it. My advice is to wait awhile and save a little for it. You may be better off in the long run...and good things happen to those who wait.

Sorry, just my 2 cents.

I agree with the above poster... if the car is a stretch, you might want to hold off a bit. Something as simple as a new set of rear tires (this car wears them quick!) might be of a financial hardship if you are "stretching" it...

But man, they are cool!

Mine was not super reliable, but luckily it was under the warranty. Most of the stuff was minor, the only major ordeal was having the catalytic converter and the water pump replaced... Otherwise, it was a great car...

I think the newer ones have had the "normal" issues solved...

markpenske ......... the tires on the S2K are at their best in dry and warm weather. I would sell the S02s on the back and put S03s in their place. The rear S02s have a tendency to hydroplane. That is if the S2000 was going to be my daily driver.

Mark, you sound just like me a few years ago when I saw my first S2000 at the auto show. When I first saw this car my lower jaw hit the floor but the cost made it out of the question.I did as much research on the car as possible while saving about 3/4 of my paychecks for that big down payment I knew I would need if this was gonna happen. After two years of saving I had enough to put down to pay for about half the cost in cash and became an owner last October.Keep in mind we are talking about a car here and I can't recommend anyone getting into this kind of debt until they are really ready.Good luck to you...I've been there and know what you're going through.

Definitely do not stretch yourself to buy it...yes it is reliable but the same thought as above comes to mind, a set of skins is $$$ and they wear out quickly. But yes it is reliable although it needs more attention than Civics and Accords I have owned. And then there is the expense of buying gadgets and accessories for it, stuff YOU GOTTA HAVE like Muz mats and dead pedals and a K&N filter and....

I agree with everyone here... save up for it. Good things definitely happen to those who wait. Good luck.

Hey everyone. Your feedback is greatly appreciated. I thing I might have over exaggerated the finical thing. Ya see, I've owned a Civic, CRX si & 2 Accords. I've never owned a convertible or a car of the S2000's dynamics & I'm a bit nerves because I don't know what to expect. I think what I really wanted to say is: I planned on this car being my primary transportation & if I'm going to pay the money I wanted to know if this car will be suited to be my daily driver.
Thanks.

You can't enjoy the car fully when worrying about stupid shit. Wait a lil, save some money, mug some nuns then get yourself a new 2003.

It is a joy to drive every day, but if I had a choice, I would not. When I bought the car it was solely for "fun", and truly I could not keep my hands off of it. Then my poor wife got unceremoniously laid off after 10 years with AAA (hell yes I am bitter) and lost her company car. So now the S2000 is a daily driver, at least for my 23 yr old daughter who is hangin' with the old folks for a while and has the shortest commute. I get the Civic mostly.

So get the S2K if you can afford to have a daily wreck to beat on.....
