I love the S2000, and love the idea of a convertible.

Having never owned a convertible, I'd love to hear an opposite discussion of some of the cons of having a S2000.

For example, the recent thread about the high theft of seats.

What are some of the things that would be a negative to owning a S2000?

Interested in hearing the other side of the coin.

i dont think the convertible roof will cause any issues, its pretty functional as a proper roof, the only things that I can think of is driving in the snow or heavy rain.

apart from that the car is blast.

 

My S is my daily driver...it's a blast, rain, sleet, or snow Do it.

 

my S2000 was my only car for about past 2 years.... it was great daily driver..... u r gonna love it so much that u wont even complain about it...
that is how i was.....

but there was moment when i kinda wished that s2k was little quieter and not a high revin car...

 

Leather seats in the hot AZ sun will torch you in shorts.

 

i drive mine year round in wisconsin and don't have any trouble, as long as i have winter tires on. while it's not too practical on space, it's no trouble for me as a daily driver at all.

 

My S is my only car. Downsides. I go grocery shopping twice a week instead of weekly. I've stopped going to Costco. I have to borrow someone's SUV or truck to help my son move or go to Lowes. It's worth it; every time I get to drive I just grin!

 

As long as you're not wearing little running shorts you should be fine, but unfortunately you will be top up almost exclusively June and July, I've yet to experience an AZ August with a convertable.

honestly, its great as a daily driver as long as you are a driver. Too many people on the roads today aren't drivers, but just occupants going from point A to point B, now judging from your interest in the car and looking at your other automobile, i'd say you're probably a driver and you'll love it. It does get loud, it does get hot, but it never stops being fun. And that is why you buy this car.

 

Most of the cons of the S2000 are pretty straightforward if you do your homework, and since you're on this site, you've done your homework

-The convertible top may be a security issue depending on where you park

-While it has enough torque to motor around happily without waking the neighbors, the car doesn't really enjoy stop and go traffic

-You will be surprised at what you can't fit in the trunk. It's small, and we all know that, but I couldn't fit a scanner in it. A SCANNER for crying out loud!! (it was in the box)

-In comparison to other 'daily drivers' the car is relatively loud and rigid

But you probably knew all those things already. I did, and I couldn't care less. Bought the car anyway, and loving every mile The biggest con for me is that I can't focus on anything at work, because I'm always looking forward to the drive home

 

The convertible issue isn't a big one. If it starts to bother you, just get a hardtop. That's what I finally ended up doing for my Miata... it really helps make it feel like a "normal" car. The cloth should be fine for most people though.

The ride quality isn't an issue if you're used to sporty cars. It's a bit more harsh than my Celica, but not enough where it bothers me.

Stick for a d/d can be a pain, depending on how much traffic/hills you deal with. You can weigh this by yourself.

Lastly, the space issue is one you have to seriously consider. Even if you hardly ever use your backseat or trunk, just having them is nice. Wanna know something funny? I don't miss the backseats... I miss having seats that recline. I used to sleep in my car between classes.
