Consumer Reports and the Year 2000 Models
Hey everyone, I am brand new to this forum and am looking for some experienced opinions. I am looking at buying an S2000 in the very near future, and so far my number one pick has been a year 2000 with 22k original miles. When I checked it out in Consumer Reports, they scored every year of the S2000 very highly, except the year 2000 model had a poor score for the engine category. I looked further into consumer opinions on Edmunds.com and it was mentioned that the year 2000's had some engine problems that Honda addressed in later years. Can anyone comment on this? I need for this car to be very reliable, as this is a car I have wanted for a very long time and will be my daily driver. Thanks everyone and God bless.
I had an '00 model for five years and 70,000 miles and had no engine problems at all.
Most people with a '00 model would probably say that their transmission was the issue (1-2 grind; clutch buzzing; etc).
Honda put out TSB's to address those tranny issues a few years ago.
I'm a bit surprised at the 'poor' rating on the engine.

I have a MY00 with 124,XXX miles and haven't had any major problems. Only thing I had to replace so far is the timing chain tensioner which is a wear and tear component. Clutch buzz doesn't harm the transmission in any way so there's nothing to worry about.
