Can't speak to the 00 specifically but people have certainly had problems where the convertible top module failed. I had this happen on my 06. I don't recall hearing of motor failures but anything's possible. IIRC problem with your straps can affect your top as well. Fabric wear, as stated above, seems to be most common.

The top itself sucks harder than a black hole... that said, the motors are very robust and most likely won't fail you.

I havent been worried about mine, it probably goes up and down 6 times a day. what i am worried about is the plastic rear window turning brown =(
Thanks for the info!

On my plastic rear window, I do have a brown spot from the sun.
I can feel the brown spots coming already...just waiting for an excuse to put on a new top with a glass window.
Depending on how much you want to preserve your top, you could pick up a nice hardtop for around 1500$ or do what im doing and getting a Half cover "yamica" made to just cover the soft top and windows.

I had issues where my top wouldn't go up and down. Turned out to be crossed wires from a bad stereo install from the previous owner.

I have a 00 year model. The top was replaced not too long ago but im 99% sure the motor wasnt. Still goes up and down fine. Im more worried about putting the top down too much and causing a tear in the fabric. The last thing I want to do is spend $1500 for a new top when there are so many other things I want to do to the car =/

Worst comes to worst, if a motor fails you can buy some used ones on here for pretty cheap
