Owner - David Gomez (Sadly, Third owner)
Year of car -2003
Mileage when top tore - 60,000 (Car was garage kept and maintained with conditioning products, did little to prevent the faulty/ sharp soft-top frame)
Date when tear discovered - 11/07
Honda dealership involved - Family Honda: Rancho Santa Margarita 92688
Outcome of replacement request - DENIED:
Spoke to Service director and was told to contact Honda Corporate. Filed claim and redirected from Honda Corporate to Service Director- Service Manager Contacted by Honda Corporate. Told to bring vehicle in when a District Rep was present. Brought the car in after finished with finals 05/15/08. Representative denied my claim; Assistant Service Manager said was partially due to my owner status, the high mileage on the vehicle (non certified, second party purchased.) Assistant Service Manager also attempted to get parts covered while I pay for labor, also denied. Offered to give me a discount on the two thousand dollars estimate of parts and labor.

One thing that might put some pressure on Honda is to write the editors of the various car magazines that might cover the s2k and urge them to include the issue in any future coverage of the car. Also include the issue in any on line reviews written about the car.

I dont even want to think about the required time to be invested to do this... but I imagine 30-40 people willing to call Honda America daily, or every other day, or even weekly for an extended period of time would get them message across.

I cant say that this will get it to be covered from now on.. but I bet it will atleast come up in a meeting or two of theirs and atleast have a chance.

I also have the typical pinch tear on the driver side, and the passenger side is not torn, but nearly see thru its so close. (2001 with 60k miles)

Is it ok if I copy and paste everyones reply post to the first page?

I wonder how hard it would be to change the new design for the convertible to prevent the tears. Sure a new top would be an easy fix, but the number of S2000s that they are fixing under manufactuer defect at $2000 a pop. These preventive measure would help the upcoming s2000 owners in 2008+.

I'm not in the USA but that could be of interest to you:

Year of car - 2005
Mileage when top tore - 12,000 km, car always garaged, top rarely latched (only when driving in unexpected rain, would usually use another car when it rains) (never latched while parked, no fear of car theft here) but frequently opened/closed (4 times/day ?)
Date when tear discovered - 2008
Honda dealership involved - Nozawa, Tokyo
Outcome of replacement request - top entirely REPLACED AT NO COST on first demand with hardly any discussion about it, took 3 days though during which as loaner got a Civic R !
