Cool windshield

I saw a lot of Mustang GT's rolling around with those tints when I lived in LA. They were usually driven by some Fred Durst looking guy who was blasting 50 cent and had a tribal vynil on the back of the car...

str8 ghetto.

There was a special edition Yamaha R1 that had a micron-thin titanium coating on the windshield but that's the only time I've seen one that looked cool.

Ok.. in California here you can get tint for your windshield at 80%.... YUP 80% that it. anymore it is illegal.

I was always under the impression that the coating was added to reduce heat and UV exposure inside the car.

This is true; if you'll notice, almost all minivans have it. The steep rake of those windshields make the surface area much greater than on other cars, and without some sort of UV barrier the car's interior would be much too hot in the sun to be livable.
