Mobil1 is recommended by Mercedes Benz's and Porsch's.
How many times do we need to cover this? It's called a contract.

Why doesn't Tiger Woods still play the Mizuno irons he used to dominate Augusta in 1997? Titelist and Nike.

contracts can be changed. if the oil truly sucked, they probably would not use it and tell their dealers to do so as well.

If anything, porcshe and mercedes were paid to use their names on the mobil1 bottle. That doesn't mean there is a contract at all.

It by no means "sucks" and I never said that it did. There are just better alternatives out there.

even changing regular oil at 3000 miles intervals is a waste.

I agree with that.

I use mobil1 because it is among the best I can conveniently buy. I'm not poor by any stretch, but I just can't get myself to spend $10+/quart on oil. Mobil1 is certainly better than regular oil.

Correction: Mobil1 is not recommended by MBUSA. Only Mobil1 SuperSyn European Car Formula 0W-40 is approved to be used for vehicles with Flexible Service System starting model year 1998. Some synthetic are not recommended: Mobil 1 SuperSyn 0W-30, 5W-30 and 10W-30 for reason that these 3 oils do not meet MB spec of > 3.5 cP for high temperature high shear strength.

Thanks for posting that TR-S2K.

That last sentence is exactly why I won't use their 10W-30 in my motor. High rpm use is exactly where you need the HTHS to be greater than 3.5 or the 30 will quickly shear down to a 20 weight. Reading through the threads on the oil forum, after doing a search for Honda, it seems as though Mobil 1 has a unique relation with Honda motors(civic si, integra, S2000) in that they are notorious for consuming mass quanities of their oil in relation to other brands. I equate this to it shearing down to a 20 weight and therefore increasing the consumption rate.

Since I switched over to the GC 0W-30 the consumption I was seeing with Redline 10W-30 has literally cut itself in half. The GC does have an HTHS greater than 3.5 and is on the THICKER side of the scale for 30 weights almost being a 40 weight. Most are skeptical to believe that at first because they assume that since it's a 0W-30 vs. 10W-30 then it has to be thinner than the 10W-30. At startup this is true and is a benefit to quick lubrication; however, once the oil heats up to full spec it is THICKER than any 5W-30 or 10W-30 but just barely not as thick as Honda's other recommended grade for the F20C, the 5W-40.
