Default couple questions i've been wondering about

1. when you start the car, do you need to depress the clutch? what happens if you hit the start button while the car is on?

2. when you guys wash your car, how do you wash the top? does it repel bird poop pretty well?

3. what kind of alarms are you guys using and how much did you spend?

4. whats the biggest annoyance about the car that would make you reconsider the S2000?

Thanks!

Yes, the clutch must be depressed for the starter to engage. If the engine is running and you push the start button again, it will make a bad noise. The start button is not deactivated electronically and the starter will hit the flywheel which grinds a bit.

I wash mine every week. But, if I see bird poop or anything else that doesn't look good, I'll wash it immediately(or ASAP) with water and rag that I keep in the trunk.

Pick one with a dual perimeter sensor. One for the outside perimeter that gives them a warning and another one for the cabin that executes the FULL ALARM. This will allow you to park with the top down and not feel too exposed. A pager is another option that can be added to notify you when the alarm is triggered.

There is nothing about the car that would make me reconsider buying it. It is a truly remarkable machine that I enjoy driving 100 miles a day.

The only real problem I have is the noisy clutch that happens every 15-20k miles. I just replace it with a new one even though it will get louder with time & miles. It's like changing the water pump on my 81 RX-7 every 40k miles. You just get used to it.

1. when you start the car, do you need to depress the clutch? what happens if you hit the start button while the car is on?
-to start the car, turn the key, then press the clutch, then press the button
-if you hit the start button when the car is on...it doesn't make a good noise...

2. when you guys wash your car, how do you wash the top? does it repel bird poop pretty well?
-i just wash the top like its part of the car.
-i dont think anything repels bird poop...

3. what kind of alarms are you guys using and how much did you spend?
-no alarm. theres a chip in the key that wont allow anyone the start engine.

4. whats the biggest annoyance about the car that would make you reconsider the S2000?
-size, space... and size

1. I need not say more.

2. Likewise, haven't been bombed yet. Only washed the car twice (had it a week and a half) and didn't get the top wet--used air compressor to dust off the top.

3. Don't have one yet, but I like the idea of perimeter--Viper you say, folks?

4. I'm not worthy! Actually, I wish there was more storage/more easily accessed storage in the cockpit (oops, sorry, I guess that should read "flight deck?")

But I found the trunk to be much bigger than I originally thought. I keep an emergency child seat, fix-a-flat, a couple bottles of water, flares/jumper cables/AAA emergency kit, and some tools--all in the little well. I can still fit a half-dozen bags of groceries, golf clubs, or bunches of other stuff--on top of that.

Clarification - since you need to have the clutch depressed to start the car, hitting the button while the car is running won't do anything unless the clutch is depressed. I tried it last time this question came up - car at idle, feet away from all the pedals. The button is completely dead. I wouldn't try it with the clutch pushed in, though.

I'll just address #2. I use 3M's 303 vinyl cleaner for the top. I haven't gotten bird poop on it yet, but I have gotten tree sap on it. You just spray the area and scrub with a soft bristle brush. It does work. After the top is completely dry, I apply 3M's 303 vinyl protectant. This also protects against UV rays.
