Default Cracking leather?!?

just noticed tonight that the leather on the left bolster of the driver's seat is starting to crack already! i mean, i can understand heat and long term use having this kind of effect on the leather, but i've had the car 4 months yesterday, and it's been mostly cold - hasn't been over 70 a single day i've owned it, and i've had the hardtop on most of that time. but it's actually fading out a little, and starting to crack - think honda will replace it? it's kinda soon for that to happen, isn't it?

i have bad news for you. the Leather HOnda has on the s2000 sucks.. its very low in quality and also its very thin. i think they had weight in mind when they made these seats. you can go ahead and try to see if Honda will warranty the leather but i doubt it

My seats are showing the same wear pattern you describe too and I notice the same in older S2000's. I doubt the dealer will cover this under warranty but you can always try. Just get some conditioner (I used Zaino Z-10 leather in a bottle) to prevent the cracks/creases from deepening and breaking through the leather.

i'm already on that, but if it doesn't work or if honda chooses not to help me, i've already started looking into redoing them in a silver/black combination... but i don't want to have to.

When I designed the console cover for the S2000 I had trouble finding a leather that matched the seats. The problem is that the leather Honda or Recaro used is very low quality and heavily treated. It doesn't even look like leather. More like vinyl.

I will eventually be offering very high quality skins for the seats made of high quality automotive leather (as used on the console cover).

In the mean time, I had my seat base replace under warranty due to discolouration so you may have a chance getting yours replaced.

Periodically applying a leather conditioner would probably keep the seats from becoming dry and prone to cracking.
