At least you are alive, and here to tell us about it.........It's a material thing, and not your life. I hope you learned from your mistakes like I did.

Thanks guys, oh yes I definately learned from my mistake. It makes me sick to look at the car in the garage like that. I'll just have to make it look even better for next season. That's the upside.

Man, that statement really hits home. Brings back memories of kicking myself (not literally ) repeatedly for "hurting" my "baby." If I'm not careful I'm going to get depressed over your woes.

Good to focus on what's ahead though. What's done is done, and you won't make the same mistake again. LOL, next time it will be a completely different mistake.

JSWhaler, clearly the car wasn't maintained properly so, it was your fault. My philosophy is, there are no "accidents". Everything that goes wrong is carelessness and inattention.

I keep mine under a cover so it doesn't depress me. I wrecked mine on the track though. It wasn't an accident either. Completely the drivers fault.

Ouch man, I feel your pain. I crashed my S a couple weeks ago. Don't feel too bad about it. We all make mistakes and at least you're alright. I managed to find a new bumper for it rather quickly for a good price. I'm sure you will find what you need to fix it. As for now, what's happened has happened, not much use in moping around, although I will admit it's difficult not to, but don't think about it so much, get some rest and come up with a plan to get things fixed. Once you get the plan into action you'll feel a lot better.

No, this was not a maintanence issue. I do all the work myself. The bead of the tire gave way on the S02's. Everyone I was with 24+ other s2ki members were in disbelief as was I. The rubber just gave way. The only mistake I did was I should have possibly replaced the tire before hand. Running 14k miles and 3 years on them and they looked fine, guess not.

I could argue that not replacing the tire IS lack of maintainance but, nobody expects them to disintegrate like that. The only time I've seen anything remotely like that was under-inflated tires. They overheat and come apart.

You might have had a nice settlement on your hands though...

The only time I've ever seen that kind of thing it was due to underinflation. Usually a tire fails progressively and gives lots of warning.

However, the man said he did his own matintainence, and the implication was that the car was in good mechanical condition, which I assume means that he checked the tire pressures regularly and kept them properly inflated.

In which case, he probably has a good case.

For me, the rear tires would be showing the belts on the inside at the mileage he had on his tires, and three years is a long time, so I'm not so sure.

I'd like to see the tire that failed.
