Default crazy gas mileage :)

Well today I'm realizing that I'm one bar under the half way mark and I'm at 200 miles or so on my trip meter....At this rate I'm going to be hitting 270 maybe 290!! The crazy thing is most of it is city driving some freeway here and there. I'm thinking most of it has to do with my K&N since my oem was kind of dirty and its about 3 weeks since I did this and someone on the board told me to wait a few weeks before I realize my mileage gains. I VTEC her maybe 10 -20 times a week. The crazy thing is I only put in the regular $19.50 after I have only 3 bars left to fill her up and my pattern of driving has been the same. Could the K&N really improve mielage...

Then paranoid about babying my car as always I panicked and thought what if I put in octane 87 since I had to go to a new unfamiliar chevron station since my normal once is fenced over and being repaired or closed. Then I realized that I'm not that ignorant to accidentally put in 87, the highest octane gas is usually on the right hand side if your standing in front of it and I always grab for the right, I still get VTEC kick and nothing is diff in driving, and most importantly the gas filled up after $19.50 and then stops pumping since it has an auto overflow function. I always fill her when I'm down to 3 bars and its alway around $19.50 or so before she stops pumping when I use premium at my normal chevron. So in conclusion the K&N did work on my s2k but now I'm worried about putting a CAI in and losing that mielage?

putting a CAI in won't hurt your mileage, it will mostly stay the same or even increase.

Please DO NOT put 87 in your car. This car NEEDS 91 in order to reduce the chance of detonation... and if you do accidentally put 87 in, DO NOT VTEC! Too risky if you ask me.

Don't worry, I was just trying to scrape up any excuse to why I was getting such better mileage then just cancel each explanation out like I did above. I'm awlays so paranoid with my s2k whether I take her to a dealer, park in the mall, etc etc. I always baby her rarely ever VTEC and always using 92 chevron with techron, best gas here in WA

Its a high flow filter which is a direct replacement for the stock one. I saw a dyno where it gained 2hp because the old one was probably dirty but the most benefit you get is mileage and maybe a lil hp 2-3HP. It is def better than stock though. The company does claim more HP 4% or something, though since it is high flow and it upped HP on my past cars and was very reliable so I'm pretty happy with K&N. Its about 55-60 bucks after shipping and you won't ever have to replace it like your oem filter which is 10k miles. Think of it as an investment

Don't all gas stations have this? Isn't it like, law?

I better be careful then at older gas stations... after many years of filling up, I basically depend on that auto-shutoff.
