Default Crazy gas mileage!

Hey guys....i just was taking a trip and I always calculate my mileage. I typically get 23-26 in town, maybe around 28-30 on the HWY.....i filled up and left town, filled up after 275 miles....got 27mpg i think. All highway. Then I drove 170 miles until i got to town and drove maybe 15 miles in town and filled up...

187 miles, put on 5 gallons = 37.5MPG

is there any way i am smoking something? How could I have gotten that mileage? I thought...hmm maybe my ODO is reading too many miles, but that was exactly the distance the mile markers put me at.

Conditions: slight tail wind, passenger and loaded trunk. basically level ground...if anything uphill slightly as i was going from 2300ft - 5300ft

I have HT, lowered, 4.57's, and TP... ]

How could i have gotten such insane mileage...and.....how can i get it again

Drive a very short distance again and re-calculate it. I GUARANTEE it will be all over the map!

I find that my miles per tank and MPG are VERY repeatable if I calculate it for a full tank of gas, however as mentioned above, even refilling at about 1/2 a tank and trying to run the numbers gives me varying results.

i think i got 34mpg during mothers day weekend. steady 65-70mph cruising.
i wasn't sure if i calculated right or wrong. didn't make much of it.
or it could be the gas pump screwing me outta a gallon or 2...

The best way to calculate gas mileage is over a long period of multiple fill ups.

This will eliminate any error in fill level in the tank from station to station.

I have been keeping track of mine since I got the car in Dec.
Overall ave = 27.895
Best (ave of 5 best) = 29.91
Worst (ave of 5 lowest) = 25.61

Yes, few of my miles are in the city, probably only about 10-15% of total. I find the S to be much more enjoyable on secondary roads.

I've gotten my s2000 to 38-39mpg on MANY occasions. Hell, even now, with my turbo, UNTUNED (running 10.5AFR @ boost), I still crack the 27 mark. Cruise control FTMFW!

How would this happen? And wouldnt you just go off of what the receipt says? Thats what I do, and with mostly hwy driving I see 34mpg avg. But I only go 60-65. Also I thought it was proven that cruise control is kess economical than right foot control

The law allows the pumps to be off by 3 or 6% (I can't remember which) it is not uncommon for there to be pump error due to age and wear of the valves.

CC is more efficient in areas where you are relatively level ground. When you get into hills driving by foot is better.
