I would love an S2000 equipped with computer controlled clutch and shifting mechanisms. (Assuming, of course, it's done properly.)

How about the term "F1 style" for this sort of transmission? Or "auto clutch?"

Once again, a sequential transmission is just that, a transmission.

The FIA might have a problem with that, as might Ferrari. CMT? Clutchless manual transmission. In all intents, while it has a clutch, it is automatic. Since some call an manual shift automatic and manumatic, how about Automan? This could be the spokesman:

Siince these things are regular tranmissions that are computer controlled with servos (surely a hydrolic mechanism be considered a "servo") perhaps they should be called a "servo manual."

I think it'd go great with the current F1 theme in the cockpit. It should have come with the 2000 model. Be great to keep me from wearing on the clutch and grinding gears.

I'm just imagining the screaming, 9K, 1/10th second downshifts I'd do while approaching a sweeping corner... Yeah, that'd be a really visceral experience. I'm still not sure I'd want to pay the weight penalty, though.

I have no idea where I picked it up (probably one of the magazines), but for a few years now I've understood "semi-automatic" to refer to a manual transmission (clutch-based) that's shifted under computer control rather than via a user-operated clutch and shift lever. Conversely, I've understood "manu-matic" to refer to an automatic transmission (torque converter-based) that has provision for user-initiated gear selection.

SMG, F1 -> semi-automatic

Tiptronic -> manumatic

I would only opt for an electric tranny if they increased the rev limiter well into the teens..
