Some SMG info:
-Shifts can be rough if you treat the sequential mode(automatic/computer controlled shift points) like a regular automatic. The key to a smooth shift is to lay off the gas between shifts. This can be difficult when accelerating hard or when you don't expect a shift.
-When the tranny chooses the shift points(again sequential mode versus automated), it seems to shift at around 3500 rpms under light throttle(regular in-town acceleration). The shift points move higher under WOT.
-When you decelerate/brake for a turn, the tranny downshifts much in the same way that you'd shift into 2nd for a tight turn. The SMG tranny always keeps you in a useable gear ratio & power range. I've noticed that conventional automatics will stay in 4th gear until you make a complete stop. This is tested by braking hard from say 80-90mph. You'll feel the car downshifting very quickly.

All in all, the system would work very well in the S2000 & the reworked engine(more torque). I too would love to rip off ultra fast shifts at the 8k redline without fear of missing the next gear or not pressing/releasing the clutch in time.

Give me the paddle shifter, and do it full-up, like the 360. That means fly-by-wire throttle AND shift mechanisms. No more over-revs from downshifting too many gears. A true F1 tranny would be the perfect match for our 9000 RPM motor.

FYI, you can also skip gears when shifting. If you are cruising in 6th at say 100mph and decided to get going, you can skip 5th and drop to 4th. You also can't overrev the engine by shifting all the way to 1st while on the freeway...

The computer should be smart enough not to let you shift into a gear that will over rev the engine.
