Current S2K owners that had 911's
After signing away my first born, I finally got a test drive in a SK2. I really like the car. It had good balance and road feel. Although I didn't push the rev's, the car was smooth and quick.
I've been tracking an 85 911 for several years and would like to hear from other 911 owners on their comparison of the two.

I've had 911SCs and a 1986 911 Turbo. Visually, the turbo is wonderful with its flared fenders and all. The S2K is a more modern machine with double wishbones rather than the semitrailing arms of the older 911 rear suspension and the McPherson struts up front. The S2K is easier for me to drive with a very short throw shifter and crisp handling. I like the roadster genre much better as well.
The S2K seems just as peppy or more so than I remember the SCs to have been. The turbo was low on torque preboost but when the turbo caught up, the feeling was like double vtec cutting in- awesome. Preboost power felt lower in power than the S2K, however, but side by side comparison was not done.
I think the 911 gauges couldn't be beat with the oil level indicator and the huge central tach; the gauge lineup looked pretty cool.
All in all, I have more fun with the S2K.

A friend of mine recently bought an 85 911 Carrara.
There is NO comparison. The Porsche is vintage, but very difficult to drive. I had a hard time feeling the clutch and kept hitting the brake. I would not expect 1985 technology to match 2000.

I had an '88 911, I loved it, but I have told many people I think the S2K is a better car in every way. While this might not be entirely true. I find the S2K just as quick, handles better, more fun on the track, the gearbox is the best I've ever used, and that car just suits me so well. The 911 was a great car too. But overall I have more fun in the S2K

I own a 1986 911 Carrera, a great car but is no comparison to the S2000. The S2000 is light years a head of the old air cooled 911. The S2000 has more horsepower, handles better, shifts better, and gets better gas mileage. 15 years of technology will improve any car.

A few months ago I had a lot of fun keeping up with an '85 911 on the track at Homestead during a DE event. The Porsche driver had a lot more track experience than I and he was on race rubber, so that's why I think the S2000 would be faster - with equal drivers and equal tires.
Plus, you gotta love the S2000 being a roadster .
