What an amazing thread!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

My S2000 is as close to owning a Porsche as I'll ever come.

I feel $80,000 richer, like Honda just gave me a $110,000 car for $32,740!

I wonder what this thread would sound like on a porsche board?

I've done literally a couple of thousand laps on the track in a GT3 Honda and a stripped and modified Type R...wasn't braking any harder than normal, but the speed at the end of the two straights was considerably higher (180-190k at the end of the front straight in the Type R as opposed 245k+ in the Turbo). I had replaced the stock turbo wheels with Kinesis K58s, and we determined after the fact that the wheels may have messed up the airflow, contributing to the overheating. As for the gearbox, a couple of other folks who tracked the car hard reported the same problem, and the synchros were subsequently modified in the GT2.

I haven't had the S2k at the track...IMO before doing any serious lapping it would need a real roll bar, 5-pt harnesses, some shells with way more lateral support, some light track wheels with R-compound tires and different anti-roll bar setup to dial out the snap oversteer. Taking 'er out in stock form the tires would be gone in 10 laps and you really couldn't run it that hard because you'd never be able to stay planted in the seat. Historically, once I start modifying my cars for the track, I go nuts...and frankly I'm not sure that's the best use of the S2K.

I had a 72' 911T and still own a 914-6, my S is a daily driver, early 911's are raw cars to me, they handle well but you have to drive them w/ caution, my 914 and S200 can both go hard into a turn with less fear of losing the rear end. The S2000 is a modern sports car that can be enjoyed everyday, the car seems to shift itself and that is not the case with 911's or 914's. Both cars love the high revs but once again I don't drive the S w/ caution. My final point will show my age but in my experience no air-colled 911 a/c can keep up the Texas heat, where an S2000 can get down right chilly inside when is is over 100 degrees outside. I am on my second S2000 and hope to be able to find a third with low miles in 3 or 4 years, I am no longer in the market for Porsches.

You guys are reviving an ancient thread that was probably created by older Porsche owners looking for a new toy to play with - today, almost any teenager that saves diligently is able to buy a used S2000. I bet most (if not all) of the members who posted those messages have moved on to a different car/forum, or to the Vintage forum.
