here here to broke students! my case im in grad school so even more broke

Ok well just got it done and...

the exhaust sounds great!!!! sounds like a F-1 bike or something when you step on it Even revving is nice. Theres def way more sound in every gear and RPM.
I went to a reputable shop very high quality and they did it for around $40 or so after taxes.
Yeh I showed the weld guys your pics and they gathered around and laughed and called your welds crap?

The used a 2.25 2/14 inch pipe which is the perfect diameter and the welds were done perfect that you can hardly tell. They also looked at the winer all confsued and said they haven't seen these since the renault cars.

Def awesome fun mod for those who just want increased F-1 or racing bike noise without blowing $500-800 for an exhaust. The damn lil muffler looked heavy and big when it came out!
I WOT it alot on the way home and all I got was stares from people walking from where the sound was coming from! def cool noise not like a fart can exhaust

Also the sound might be louder since I did the air box gutted mods and baffle mods with the breather mod. So I still get a deep low grumble tone also.

Do this mod you'll love it this is how the s2k was supposed to sound! From all the dyno results it doesn't hurt your HP and who knows might increase it from 1-2HP since those who have dynoed have the highest dyno #s. I'm just happy with sounds.

yeah...my welds are crap...but like I said earlier, I really dont care since no one sees it, and as long as it holds up. I am probably going to do custom exhaust with new piping and different mufflers, so for a temporary fix, Im pretty happy!

Congrats on the new mod......sounds like you really like it!

Hey guys, just wanted to introduce myself, I just bought an 04 silverstone from Planet honda rt22 two weeks ago. First and foremost, I'm truely thrilled by the abilities of the S. Also an owner of a subaru wrx STI which I autocross every weekend, everytime that I got out of the S and drive the STI, it makes me realize how nimble and precise this car is. Not that the STI is not a good handler, it is quite the contrary. I find myself giong into coners much much deeper than I would in the STI. That said, I read this post about removing the resonator and decided to get that done yesterday. I agree with R11, a sound clip will not do it justice. You guys will have to just trust us when we said that the sound of the stock exhaust is much improved. It is definitely evident with the top down. I hear others describing the sound to a 350z, but it sounds more like a mininature C5 corvette with a stock exhaust. It is not loud at all but it does sound quite pleasing to the ears especially at the lower revs. One thing I have to say is, unless I'm trying to save weight, I would not change the stock exhaust. The change was so minor and cheap. The benefits in terms of sound are huge. The first drive around the block will have you saying to yourself, Why did I not do this sooner.

jadrice, that's pretty much it in a nutshell right there. I thought about removing it for the first 2 1/2 months I had the car but was naturally skeptical not knowing first hand what kind of sound quality/tone I'd end up with. And at that time there were just a couple old threads where a person or two had done it without many "2nd opinions" to back it up. Once I finally pulled the trigger I was just kicking myself for wasting so much time worrying about it before hand . Everyday when I drive the car now I am very happy with result. It will not be loud enough for some people and I occasionally wish it were just a bit louder myself. But then when I'm just driving to and from work and taking off from the stoplights and not having the guy next to me looking over thinking I'm trying to pull on him, I think what a great solution it is for the daily driver owner. It just gives the car a sweet, nicely balanced, refined sound/tone that'll make you want to keep the top down as much as possible so you can hear it better (not that I didn't already but you know what I mean ).

Exactly how loud is the car after removing the resonator? Any measure it or can compare it to another exhaust? Any improved performance on the butt dyno?

It's not loud at all. Just a little higher volume than the stock exhaust. When just cruising at a steady RPM on the freeway with the top up you probably wouldn't notice a difference unless you were side by side with stock. With the top down cruising on the freeway you would notice but it's a very minor increase. The main difference is when under acceleration or deceleration you can now actually hear the exhaust over the engine and it adds a nice tone particularly in the midrange between 4-6K.

Well, after watching this discussion for the last few days I couldn't resist. I went to a little muffler shop around the corner and 1/2 hr and $20 later my Resonator-ectomy was complete.

Add my name to the list of folks who think this is a great little mod. I'm one that gets frustrated by aftermarket exhausts and everyone here is right, it's just enough to know that the exhaust is rumbling a little but not intrusive.

Funny, the guy at the little hole in the wall shop just scratched his head and smiled when I asked him to do it, said "sure, I'll do it, but don't know what it's going to accomplish". He was smiling when I left, probably thinking it sounded the same to him. I guess he's used to people that either want it stock or blaring. He did a real nice clean job of it though .

Keep those testimonials comin' . Both times I had mine done it was at "Ed's Muffler & Brakes". They did a very clean job as well. Even though it's a relatively minor change, the next time you ride in or hear a stock S you'll immediately be thinking how much better yours sounds without the extra can .
