I'd love to know if this adds any HP or takes away any?

Hey, can someone tell me what the blocked off tube coming out the side of the exhaust pipe in this pic does?
It's called a Heimholtz? tube I believe, and they're designed to reduce low frequency resonance (AKA, low drone).

Jason, I really don't think it makes any difference in power either way. The resonator is a straight through shot so it doesn't create any significant backpressure to speak of.

I cut mine out over a year and a half ago and every time I drive with the top down I think what a great $50 it was spent. It's a no-brainer. But I've always yearned for just a bit more, and I've never been a big fan of oval (or chrome) tips like I have on my '04 either. After much debate I finally ordered an AP2 Mugen which will hopefully be loaded into a container and taking the slow boat from overseas soon. I waffled back and forth numerous times.... The S is my daily driver so I don't want it to be obnoxious, but it's also a sports car and I love the sound of a nice exhaust note. The resonatorectomy gives the stock exhaust a nice little bit of mid range note and helps balance out the motor/exhaust sound, but it remains very mellow. It's still just a little too subdued for my taste even for a daily driver. Having ordered the Mugen without actually hearing it in person, I'm a little apprehensive and hope it's not too much the other way, but I really don't think it will be. I'll find out in about 6-7 more weeks I guess...

Those work. All these clips kind of fail to capture the lower end of the sound spectrum. I did some recordings two years ago when I was removing mine and they ended up sounding the same way. But even so, with these two you can definitely hear the diff before and after. IMO, the sound volume *is* a little louder than stock but not much. It's just that with the resonator in, once you get off idle all you hear is the mechanical sound of the engine and no exhaust. With it out, a little of the exhaust tone comes through.

Ok, so I did the resonatorectomy on my 06 today. I love it!
Left the helmholz dongle in place. No need for nasty resonances.

Without the resonaor, the S2K has a little more "bassy" rev up sound and little more "rip" at high RPM's. Plus, I love the burbles on overrun.

This is the way the car should have come.

Best cheapo mod out there. ($80 with stainless pipe and me standing over them!)

Just did this mod for the heck of it , only thing is, mine sounds a little raspier at the top and Im guessing it has alot to do with the Megan racing test pipe?? or maybe there is a leak? Sounds really bassy before 5krpm though
