It's not for the mpg, or the trunk space that i use it daily, but for the fun. I can do a Costo run and fill the trunk and the passenger seat, I can transport one person who can maneuver in and out of a low car, on two occasions i have taken my 60lb dog places. It's a great all around car, now that being said I also have a sedan for those times with I want to go to home depo or carry a few folks, but 98% of the time the S is a good all around car. There are cheaper fun cars (used miata, or gti or etc), there are cars with better mpg, I get 22 combined and 28 on trips. there for more comfy cars for trips and commutes and even city driving. there are more powerful cars that sell for less used.

the S2000 has a practical side and a fun side and as far as a roadster goes, and that's why I have it, it's just plain great.
Agree
I am looking to top down every single day after work. got my car for about 9 months and daily since that.
I just dont want to drive my accord again.

You guys that have sedans/other more practical vehicles that you say you only use a small percent of the time....those small percents are not an option for someone DD'ing the S2000. Unless they wanted to rent/borrow a car, which, I suppose, may be viable for someone who REALLY wants to DD a S2000 because they're crazy about their S2000.

There's only a very small minority of people that have their S2000 as their one and only car. Having your significant other or spouse's, or parents' (that you live with) practical car as a backup disqualifies you, BTW. Though I have no clue what the OP's situation is.

My friend truly DD'd his car and lived in/near downtown LA. While downtown LA is pretty wide open in comparison to NYC or even Chicago...it still ended up getting beat up a lot, which he lamented. He is single AF, rents, has few belongings, and no pets, and lives in a climate where the weather is always 80 and sunny. So his situation was conducive to owning a S2000.

He owns a civic now though, after about 6 years of only-S2000 ownership lol. He says that while he misses the S2000, its much better to drive and use a car he's not attached to while he's living in the city...and he appreciates having 4 doors.

Another friend of mine (in downtown San Diego) owned one as an only car. He got rid of it a few months later. It got vandalized within weeks of owning it....and he started to realize how little he drove it because anytime he went somewhere as a group...his car was a non-option.

I'm not saying its impossible to DD a S2000. I'm just saying its not easy or viable for a vast majority of people.

I DD mine. 236k and counting with no real issues. I swap wheels/tires in the winter. Just buffed the paint and she shines like crazy again. Sometimes I wish I had room to carry stuff, but she's just too fun to drive.

Thanks for all the replies, I really appreciate it. It's great to know people out there are actually DDing these in almost any conditions. I am a student right now and it doesn't snow too often in Missouri so I think I'm going to give it a go while I am young and have the opportunity. Hope I can join you guys soon.

If you live within a short distance to school and can truly afford it, go for it. Your concept of a DD will change once you are/if you are commuting to work every day after school. I DD'd a lowered/loud integra and even delivery drove it 20 hrs. per week when I was in school. I loved that car and figured if I could enjoy using that car for the purpose, a stock s2k would seem luxurious by comparison. After commuting 60 miles a day in bumper to bumper traffic, my concept of what makes a DD has changed drastically. Anyways, my winter beater is now my daily beater. I also greatly underestimated just how impractical it is and what that means to the car's usability. It is useless for anything short of moving you and your backpack.

Enjoy the s2k. I would have loved to have one while I was in school. It is a great car to learn to truly drive (in a controlled environment). That part in the parentheses is a very important lesson that I learned the hard way while in college with a car that I built. Keep it safe and have fun.

Do take advantage of it as a student if you can. Fun in school and the fun car will go hand in hand. At some point you will have to borrow a van or truck to move your trash someplace as school evolves but that is in the future. Perhaps you can acquire another more practical car as your life develops and maybe involves a relationship. You will want to keep it as long as you can.

I have a city/airport car and an older truck for those things a Tacoma does well. Wife has hers and for fun I have the S.

Good luck. (Consider an airline career)

Just ask yourself every time you get in your current car "could the s2000 do this?". The answer for me was yes almost every time so it was easy.

The times an s2000 couldn't cut it not many cars could in my case (things like towing, hauling scrap metal, appliances...) but I have a lot of family and friends with trucks. Also the passenger issue, either you get to drive your dream car (separately) or you don't have to drive at all, win/win!

I used a Morgan +4 as a DD for a couple of years. The right type of ladies loved it, & so did my Great Dane, even at the same tine on a couple of occasions.

The S2000 is a luxury limo compared to the Morgan.

Go for it, or regret it for the rest of your life.
