I have fun with the S2000 every time I drive it, but especially with the SC/AC, on the street it's only a short drive from redline to the local jail. My problem shows up any time I let the revs go above 6k, so most of the time I shift before I get there. The problem, once I exceed 6k, is that I like it too much and can't quit until I've gone all the way. Stopping between 6k and redline is almost like some kind of coitus interruptus. Once I start, finishing up becomes a really high priority.

I do best (in terms of driving behavior) when I shift between 3k and 6k, which is like driving a car with a 6k redline between 2k and 4k, which is roughly the same reange where most people drive cars with less rev happy engines.

Wow I didnt know you could take an s2 to 9k i was figuring somewhere about 8k. What mph are you shifting at in first @9k rpms?
The S2000's you've seen with the 8k redline are cars that were produced for the US market. Honda made quite a few changes to the little engine, to better suit the US market, and the lower redline does not in any way lower the US cars performance. Older US cars have the original version of the engine, so they have a higher redline. The top speed in any given gear is different too, because Honda changed the gear ratios in '04.

Anyway, your thinking was correct, for the newer US spec cars, but the older US cars have a smaller engine that has to spin faster to make the power, so they have a higher redline.

I did a little playing around while I was out in the car tonight. Keep in mind that my car is driving a supercharger that only drains power at low revs, so anything my car does a stock S2000 with an F20C sould be able to do, and it sould be even easier with the F22C.

The car will run smoothly at 5-6 MPH in first gear with a light tough on the throttle, and will accelerate smoothly from that speed (1000 RPM) without lugging, as long as the road is flat and the throttle application not overly vigorous. In second I didn't like the way the car felt at 1500 RPM, but from 2,000 it pulls well and doesn't lug. In sixth the car will pull from 2,500 RPM without lugging, as long as you don't use WOT. You can really do major short shifting with these cars and they don't seem to mind at all. It's just more fun if you let the engine rev freely (and probaly easier on the engine too).

thats the same as my old man.

I tend not to drive him in the car anymore as he bitches about getting in and out. I drive to hard (4-5K shift points), ride to harsh blah blah blah blah.

He complains about me not putting the roof down, but then complains whens its down.

I GIVE UP!!!!!

When daily driving to work, I usually shift at the point that I will end up at least at 2000 revs in the next higher gear. Going under 2000 rpm isn't that good for the petrol engine, too much stress and strain trying to get the car going with too little torque. So I usually shift between 2.5 and 3.5

I shift around 3200rpm in every gear during normal driving. It gets me pretty solid fuel economy (24mpg average) and keeps me from getting exhaust tickets with my Invidia. I know that's WAY below where most drivers shift with our cars, but it's just what feels right.
