Daily drivers, when do you shift?
well you know what vin diesel says
granny shiftin, not double clutchin like you should. You know how it goes. sounds like everyone is granny shiftin. anyway just kidding.
Sounds like a lot of broken diffs and axles considering how everyone drives so conservatively according to this

My S is a daily driver. During normal "getting to work" driving, I tend to shift at 3.5 rpm before three bars. After the third bar has lit up I will usually shift at 4.5 rpm.
I've had other manual cars before and I would usually shift between 2.5-3.5k rpm. I'm trying to determine what is the ideal shift point at the tach, to keep the engine healthy. Not too concerned about gas mileage. My thought is
I would rather spin the engine a little higher before shifting. It just feels right to drive this car this way.
Opinions?

it took me a while to get use to cuz my accord redlines around 6 i tink.. haha been a while.. but usually shifting at half of what your redline is.. is usually right for a DD
it not as much how high you take it but how fast and how long you hold it there before shifting will affect your mpg

reason the other cars you have.. you shifted lower cuz the redline is lower

Half your redline seemed to be the easiest spot to shift in all my cars, except my '01 Corolla. It didn't have a tach...so I'm still not sure what the hell I was doing, but it's pretty hard to NOT shift smooth in a Corolla

On an unrelated note, who the hell builds a manual car dash without a tach?

In 23k miles, I have used up nearly 4 sets of tires, and 3 or four sets of brake pads, (can't remember) one set being aftermarket HPDE pads.
I dun't have a broken diff or a broken axle
I think it may have to due with racing tendencys, as in abrupt accereration from a standstill
I dun't mash the throttle till I'm doin 15-20 mph
