Am I seriously reading "occasional" vtec from some? I can only hope that's sarcasm...

I don't like shifting in this car below 3k as it's too rough on the transmission because of the lack of low end hp and tq in this car...Normal driving is shifting in the 4-5k range...I don't care much about gas mileage...It's expensive regardless of how much I try to baby it...

I tend to shift around 4k most of the time when driving easy. I don't like to drive with rpms lower than 2500 though, that tends to put more load on the engine as it lugs and probably does more harm than good. So I shift in a manner that will keep rpms at 2500 or more once I upshift to the next gear.

Most of my driving is city and I notice only 2-3mpg difference between when I take it easy in the car and when I drive it spiritedly. I would rather have fun than save a few dollars a month on gas. I rarely shift below 4k and I take it to 8500rpm often (AP2/Flashpro).

Depends on mood, traffic, conditions, etc. I don't get threads like this. There's not one single RPM suitable for all instances.

Define "nice". Puttering around in traffic seems like a waste of an S to me and not nice but YMMV, obviously.

So why would you ever need/use the VTEC with this shift pattern? Honda wouldn't have given you the VTEC if the car wasn't up to it and they hadn't intended that it be used - it is there for a reason - use it! Have fun.

I go by feel, or Just remember the shift points

For AP1

2-15
3-25
4-40
5-47
6-52

If you are new to S2000, read the owner manual, It's definitely worth your time
Same shift points are listed for the ap2..
It puts the shifts in the 3-4k range.

Daily driver for 9+ years. I usually shift around 4-5k in everyday driving. The car still sees 8k+ in 1st and/or 2nd almost every day. I tend to drive it like I stole it, and have had zero reliability concerns (knock on wood). I typically see around 19mpg in short trips around town (no highway). Up to 28 on the highway cruising at 80+.
