Default daily driving, torque comparable to?

I am strongly considering purchasing an s2000. I can only afford to get a used one, probably a 2002. I have a few questions that I would like to ask some of you. What rpm do you shift at during daily driving? The reason I ask is I own a civic with a B16 moderatley modified and I shift it at abot 4200rpm dailt driving. Also what kind of vehicle would you compare the daily driving torque charcteristics to? I ask this because I previously owned a tt rx7 and it just did not have enough torque to get around easily. Where I live there are a lot of hills. So I had to use more clutch slippage and throttle modulation than I would have liked to. Thanks in advance and I am sorry if these questions have been asked before. In other words please don't flame me.

Well, as others will point out, this topic has been discussed to death on this board. You may want to do a simple search to read up on all the previous discussions. I'll get you started with this link:

is the s2k torquey enough for driving around town?

I'll let you draw your own conclusions after reading that thread. But chances are, the S2000 is probably not as torquey as what you were used to -- though it does have enough torque for many of us to drive it around town everyday.

the s2000, imo, has enough torque for daily driving. i use mine as a daily driver and i live up in the hills and i have no complaints. although i think ideally the shifting point in the s2000 during daily driving should be anywhere from 4000-5500rpm depending on how steep of an incline you're on as well as how much pep will satiate your daily driving desires. also, unless your b16 was FIed, i think you will find that the s2000 will have more pep in daily driving than your civic even if you shift at 4200rpm. what most layperson neglect to take into account is that although the s2000 does not make the most abundant torque, the light weight of the vehicle allows the "lack" of torque to still make the car feel brisk at lower rpms... but despite all i can attempt to say to convince you that the s2000 has enough torque for daily driving, there's no better way to convince yourself than to test drive it for yourself.

I'm thinking you should buy an 03+ SVT Cobra if your worried about torque around town.. 300 ft lbs@ 1200 rpm peaking at 390 ft lbs@3500 rpm....

I have definitely going with the s2000. I am going to put a turbo on it. That should solve any torque deficiency. I dont see why more people don't go turbo. The cost of a header and a good intake is a signifcant portion of the turbo kit cost and nets a lot more power

Read some of the many threads here and you'll see why. A turbo sounds very "romantic" but there are limitations as it pertains to this car. What applies to other cars, you will quickly find out does NOT apply to this one.
You say you want this car to be your daily driver. A turbo may not give you this.

I picked up me S this past Monday, and to me it has more than enough torque for daily driving. My last sports car was an 85 RX-7 GSL with the 12a engine (til last fall), and the S simply blows it away. RX-7s are not known for their torque, so they take a certain amount of finesse to get started, but I never had any issues with it.

For me the S is going to be a great daily driver. I've been short-shifting at 5K and the car simply screams; I can't wait till I can VTEC this thing.

As far as hills go, there are some near to me with stops at the top of them, and while I've needed to use the hand-brake on one, I haven't had to slip the clutch any to get started.

I guess it's all a matter of technique and practice.

Turbo

I have only heard bad things about turbos on this car.

I think that you are going into this with the wrong mind state. The car's every day around town driving is like driving a 4 cylinder Accord. The main difference is the noise from the engine.

Drive a used one around town for an hour before you make your final decision.
