here is my story. as some of you know, regarding my speedomter illuminating improperly in heat, i had fernandez honda @ san antonio TX to replace my lcd. while doing so, instrument panel was removed and followings were damaged:
service rep stated that he special ordered the parts for replacement. when i went to pickup my car, service manager stated that some parts were not covered under warranty so he did not replace them. why should parts that they messed up be under the warranty service? i was asking for reimbursement to their sorry ass installation! anyway, i didnt want to argure so i got into the car and stared at the replaced parts. i noticed that some scratches were still at the same spots. i kept looking and noticed that panel and airbag were painted. so i went back into the dealer and asked the service manager for the truth. he stated that no parts were replaced but were repaired. i asked why and he told me that honda's policy for damaged interior pieces is to attempt to repair. i told him that i was not satisfied and he stated that he could try again to repair them but theres a possibility of damaging other parts in the process.
my question to you are:
1. how hard is it to remove instrument panel without scratching it and others?
2. how should i approach to this conflict? i dont ever want to go back to that dealer.
3. lastly, i was told that removing dust from speedomter is not possible since doing so will damage the lcd. is this true?
oh yeah...
nothing was done to steering wheel because he stated that i didnt mention it when i first reported.
temperature controller was not replaced nor repaired because its working fine and its only little chips.
paint on airbag is already peeling off.
small portion of paint on panel has peeled off.
How about calling American Honda customer service and filing a complaint against the dealer?? I'm sure that'll help since any negative dings against a dealer may affect their allocation of cars or so I've been told. My .02. Good luck!
Whoever did the work on your car should be fired. He is a huge liability to the dealership, if this job is indicative of his level of workmanship.
The entire job needs to be redone, and every single part that is damaged should be replaced at no cost to you. The steering wheel/airbag combo retails for about $1,000 and the heater/AC control pod is pretty pricey, too.
With labor, the damage to your car is probably over $1,500 dollars!!
You should report the incident to American Honda, including the mechanic's name, service manager's name, and the pics you posted. I would also send a copy of the letter to the owner of the dealership. I think it's also good to let them know in writing that the incident and resolution are posted publicly on S2KI.
Definitely consider having the repair work done at a different dealership.
I've taken the instrument panel out 3 times to do different mods, and I've never scratched even one piece, and I'm just an amateur mechanic!
