i talked to general manager at fernanadez honda. my supervisors advised me to talk to him before we take any action... using air force resources to resolve this problem. i explained to him my situation and showed him this post. he is currently working on this case and im currently waiting for his approval regarding my request... which is to replace all damaged items with new parts. i get my answer tomorrow so i'll update asap.

Man, you got screwed. Make sure to get everything brand new. They definitely can't get away with this.

You should say no, unacceptable, that you want new parts only. Refinish is just another way of saying repair.

save yourself the time and trouble in the future dealing with more shoddy touchups by just demanding all new parts.

DO NOT ACCEPT REFINISHED PARTS!!!

That is total BS! As soon as the finish wears off, you'll be left with the same damaged parts, only they will look worse with peeling paint.

Painting over the damage will save the dealership from purchasing any parts, and from the labor costs of removing and replacing the damaged items. That's the only reason they want to do it that way.

I recommend that you GET YOUR CAR AWAY from any dealership that would even suggest such a ridiculous solution. Report this incident to Honda America, and go to a different dealership for the repair!

i just called to let him know that i will NOT accept refinished parts. only new ones. he said OK but we shall see. im dropping my car off tomorrow for the last time hopefully. to be updated~

hey Kodokan_4 or anyone who has removed the panel before:
how did you guys removed the panel?... just unscrew two on top and snap out?
i read somewhere that lowering or removing steering wheel is required or recommended before removing the panel. is that true?

for documenting purpose... here are few shots after dealer's first attempt.

sign of sanding and painting

again... mechanic or whoever was trying to put the panel back on... forced it in... scraping my steering wheel cover

i dont know if they even bother refinishing this part or if they refinished it then scraped it again during installation

i have crappy digital camera so it wouldnt photograph some of the flaws.
