Glad you are ok that could have been disastrous, I wanted my tires changed way before they even looked like that. Some of us are just lucky huh.
I know the feeling of loosing traction like that on the road its like your heart skips a beat and everything is going by slow not a fun experience.

I had 2 occasion. I think it just the car though because when I got new tires I was going 50 over sprinkler but a different area. I can feel my car loosing grip. I was like what I paid 600 all around for this. I know how to drive in the rain if that what you are asking but I believe it true about the s2000 just not driving well in the rain. I don't jerk the steering wheel when I go over water or make sudden adjustment just keep it steady on the gas. But it normally all the tires give out not just the rear for a brief second. I can control my drift because I practice in the rain in the parking lot at my work. I'm accustomed to driving in the rain just not my car.

So you're saying you're losing traction in the rain during turns or driving straight?

One thing that determines ones ability to control a car in the rain, is adaptability. Keep in mind, there are different types of asphalt, and road conditions. If it has not rained for a while, there is oil on the road, very slick. How much rubber do you have? did you lower the air pressure? Sometimes you have to work with what you have for the moment. One thing that has saved my butt, is a thing called fear, keeps me from getting in over my head. I have yet to drive my 03 in the rain, but am looking forward to it.

I run with a high pressure since frequently I go to the mountain with my car. 36 front and 34 rear. My tires are some what gone but not to bad. I have about 40% left. I won't be changing my tire for about 3,000 miles and i never drive with bald tires. But when I orginally got a new set of S03 all around with maybe 3 weeks of driving in them my tires lost traction going on a slight incline. This time I lost traction going on a slight downhill. Both was going in a straight line. Both was from excess water. I lost traction before going onto the freeway but I had the same experiences in with my M3. I always drive a certain degree of caution when it rains.
