Though I was always interested in mechanical things, I only got into cars in 2006 while in college, long after the S had been out there. At that time, the only affordable options for me were early 90s cars, so I settled on an S13 240sx. I still miss it a lot; such a dependable all-round sporty RWD. I went through 3 more 240's until last year, when I suddenly noticed the S14 was no longer fun. After so much sweat and blood put into it, I could never get rid of the 240's econobox roots in terms of handling. I wanted one designed to be a sports car from the start. And RWD was a must.

In all these years, I always respected the s2000, from watching all sorts of car videos, notably Best Motoring. When I lost interest in the 240, and my financial situation stable, it was maniacal search time. Only the 300zx TT, FD RX7 and s2000 were in consideration for my 15k budget (and no, I never buy anything on credit). I remember driving an NA 300zx a few years back, which felt like a pig. Then a test drive in an RX7 R1 was memorable and incredible, but the 240s' reliability record had raised my standards. I was left with the s2000.

One Thursday evening during my search I found a Suzuka Blue in south NJ with 51k, new soft top, good tires, all stock. Called the guy Friday morning, and 2pm I left work in Long Island for a 4hr drive. I met this young guy waiting there in the car, top down. To my surprise, he was such a mature owner who truly loves, knows, and takes care of the S (it was his 2nd). He drove me around the neighborhood once, then we swapped, I drove once, then a 2nd time, then 3rd. Holy smurf!! Everything in this car was right. Switching from my autocross-built S14, this thing was a pussycat yet so responsive and balanced. 10 min after meeting the owner and driving the s2k for the first time, I pulled money out of my pocket. Not willing to wait till Monday to register in NY, Saturday morning I got on the train at 5am to NYC, onto Greyhound at 7, and arrived at 11 to get NJ temporary tag and drive back. Hearing how sad the owner was as I left, I felt much better about the purchase and promised I'd treat it well.

The S has never ceased to amaze me since. As with everybody here, every drive is an ear-to-ear grin experience. I love rob-2's description

High strung and understated. It's a pure and humble sports car, designed and built for one reason.
oh man! This story is pretty similar to mine. Except I don't have one yet. I also have a 240sx, s13 which I absolutely love. Have had it for 3 years, and I really really don't want to sell it. I test drove a s2000 and fell in love. It's all I've been thinking about lately, but couldn't agree on a price with the seller. I could sell my 240 and speed up this process but I can't seem to let her go. But seeing all these stories really makes me lean more towards selling it.

I looked at maybe six S2000's before I found the one that I ended up with. All of the previous ones were disappointments to say the least. I saw an ad online for a 05 Sebring with Black/Red interior and 59,0XX miles at an Acura Dealership. It was about an hour and a half away from my house so I called the dealer and scheduled an appointment for the next day. When I arrived at the dealership, I met the salesperson and he showed me to the car. He mentioned that the car was previously owned by the dealership's General Manager's son. It looked great; maybe a little rough (a few dents, curb rash on wheels) but the interior was PERFECT! I test drove it that day and went home to think it over.

A week passed and I finally decided to go purchase the car. The next day I was due to leave for NY for a snowboarding trip but I didn't care. I wanted to have the car. I got up to the dealer and requested the keys for a final look over and test drive. When I got out to the car, there were two scratches on the trunk reaching from one side of the car all the way to the other side I also noticed that one of the wheels had a cut and a piece of rubber about an inch long was hanging off the tire. I assume that this was the cause of incompetence by the dealership staff. After all the car was detailed by them right before I got there. I brought it to their attention and they said they would fix it. That was fine and all but my heart was set on leaving with the car that day so I was crushed.

I put a deposit down on the car so that they could fix everything that was wrong. I would go back the next week after my trip to pick it up.

The trip to NY was awesome, I had tons of fun but the whole time I kept thinking of the s2000. I had saved and waited for 2 years to get one and the moment was even further postponed.

I arrived back home in MD from NY Saturday morning at 4am. I slept for 3hours as I already had an appointment to see the S again. After the drive up to the dealer (for the third time, 9 hours total of driving) I looked at the car and saw that they had fixed everything. I walked in, wrote the biggest check I have ever written, and walked out holding the keys to my first car purchased on my own in full.

It's funny though; the reality didn't hit me then, nor did it on the drive home. I reached my home around 8pm or 9pm. I was standing in my driveway looking at my car an hour after I got there before it finally hit me, I had purchased and now own and finance the car that I have dreamed of owning since I was a kid.

That night, I left my house to drive my car on FIVE separate occasions. And the next day I filled the gas tank only to empty it by 8pm.

I loved it, and I still do over three months later. I enjoy the compliments given to me, I am thankful to the community, and I am delighted to say that my ownership of this S2000 has been nothing short of amazing.

About eight years ago, I was looking to replace my daily driver(s) of a 90 Accord coupe with an H22 (out of a prelude), and a 92 CBR600. I was itching for something new and test drove a local Silverstone at a dealer but I was able to see that the lower radiator support had been significantly snagged on something and was bent to crap. Turns out the dealership owners son used the car the last few days, and forgot to tell dad about what he did.

My reasoning for looking for an s2000 was that it was like a motorcycle on four wheels (and safer with the old drivers in Florida), and also that it was tuned to its max potential from the factory so I wouldnt spend money modding it for things like intake, exhaust.... I joined s2ki a few months before I bought one and got a lot of helpful advice.

I continued looking and found one on eBay about 100 miles away. Pictures looked great, 2001 Silverstone with black interior. I set the max I was going to bid... and went over by about 2k but won the auction. I drove up with my dad, finished the paperwork and drove it back top down. It felt great and I washed that thing all the time. A little over a year later, and I had modded the car that "didnt need mods" with a front lip, OEM hardtop, clear headlight diffusers, springs, axle spacers, nice security system, and wheels. (I just realized yesterday that its still in my signature picture) But I was buying a house and having the s2000 was not very practical for frequent trips to Lowes, I bought a 2002 4runner for those duties and the s2000 was sold.

Ever since I sold it, I wanted another. I go through cars a lot, and shortly after, I bought a 1991 Miata in ok shape that I planned to use as an autocross car for s2000 feel on the cheap. I did not like it at all and after towing it home, I fixed a few things, drove it two miles, never even put a plate on it and sold it. Then had two lifted cherokee's, another accord, and a silverado which I sill have but still wanted an s2000. The search began about two years ago, I almost pulled the trigger on a few, but thankfully held out for what I really wanted, a GPW Ap2.

December of 2012, talks began with a member on this site for a 2006 GPW that he was selling. One owner, great condition, mostly stock and a good price. Only catch was that he was a mere 1,065 miles away. He seemed like a very honest guy and the deal was on for January 2012. I flew up to the NE and as the plane cut through the clouds, I was wondering why there was white stuff all over everything! I met him at the airport and couldnt wait to see the car. After half a second of talking to him, looking the car over, and jamming the luggage into the trunk, I was off on the long journey home. The S made a debut in Washington DC, top down for a short period and it was FREEZING.

The trip home wasnt a straight shot, stopped off at a few places and I think the total mileage was 1500 miles. At one point, we were driving on a rural 2-lane highway, in the middle of Alabama, in pretty dense fog with absolutely no cell service for at least an hour and that was pretty sucky. The actual road would have been awesome minus the dense fog and no service. Later that night at about 60mph I came up on a large item (raccoon or large possum) in the road with no time to avoid it and hit it dead center. I knew that at least the OEM lip was probably shattered if not the bumper. I was VERY happy when I stopped to see that the only damage was the black bumper insert was loose on the bottom.

I dont get to drive the car as much as I would like, and there are no good roads in this area, but I am looking forward to heading to Deals Gap in a week!

I had never considered the S2000 until I decided to start looking for my first sports car, upon my dad's urging that I was young and might not have this chance again. After seeing some videos on YouTube and always having known Jeremy Clarkson's love for the car, I decided the S was the one. I found one in mechanically great shape that needed some bodywork locally. I decided to adopt a minor project and made the purchase. Although it was February when I drove her home, screaming down the interstate listening to the motor with a sweatshirt and gloves on was one of the most exciting moments of my life. Even to this day I still get the urge to just drive. Anywhere. Or nowhere.

At nearly $2000 in paint and body work, and a year's time, later, I've almost finished getting my S exactly the way I want it.

Sort of related. When I bought my S2K, the previous owner, a grown man-Not small, fairly beefy dude broke out crying uncontrollably after he signed the title over...

I first saw the s2000 on a tv commercial in Dec 1999 and thought it was a pretty nice looking car.
Fast forward to Aug 2000 and a friend of mine was looking to buy a sports car so I noticed the Car and Driver on stands that month was comparing the S2000, Z3, Boxster and a Mercedes. The S2000 blew them away! I was impressed. Showed her the magazine and we went to the local auto mall. Looked at a few cars and then went to the Honda dealership. I loved the S. 2 days later I went back and bought one. Price in Canada for a new one was $50000 but I bought it anyway and had to finance the entire amount because I wasn't planning on buying a new car. I also had to wait for a 2001. Took ownership Nov 4, 2000. Still have all documentation plus that Car and Driver.
I have now had the car for over 12 years and still love it. I was thinking of selling in 2009 and had a buyer that was willing to pay me exactly what I wanted but I couldn't do it.
It now has 28000 miles, never been modified, no accidents, except a new top because the old one was vandalised.
I have such an emotional connection to it that most likely it will be passed to my kids.

Copying/pasting my story from the CR forum when I made a similar post... here's the story of me picking up my 2nd S2000 (the first being an '05 Silverstone S2K with black interior):

Mine's fairly recent... I live in Cincinnati, OH and traveled to Dulles, VA for my CR last month. I used to own an '05 S2K but sold it back in 2008 to buy a home and get some other areas of my life in order. 4 years later and after owning an STi for some time, I decided I needed to get back into my true love so I started the hunt for another S.

I originally had no intention of getting a CR and was only looking at base models in the surrounding area. I also had planned on getting one that would be in the mid price range for S2K's these days. I started my search and found surprisingly very few for sale with my criteria (mileage 30-40k or less, great condition, no accidents) within a 200 mile radius so I expanded out to see what I could find. I did locate some base models that caught my eye so I had contacted the sellers about them but did not hear anything back from them... perhaps they had sold already and the ads had not come down yet.

So, I continued my search and came across an '08 Apex Blue Pearl S2000 CR in Virginia with only 8200 miles on it ! I was immediately very interested since I knew this was a rare find for a 4 year old car, but the price was more than I had wanted to spend. Right as I sold my last S2K, the CR's were just debuting and I had only some knowledge of their differences. I did some research on this section of the forum to learn all the small and large differences between the 2 and I was immediately sold on it. I always wanted an Integra Type-R when I was younger but could not afford one and was half afraid to own one due to theft. Seeing as how I knew that dream was long gone but I had an opportunity to have another track ready and limited production Honda, I started to look into the CR I found for sale.

I emailed the dealership (Carmax) selling the car, asking lots and lots of questions and reviewed the pics I had from the ad for days. I'm pretty particular (anal) about my cars so I wanted to make sure everything checked out. You wouldn't think anyone could really do much to a car in only 8000 or so miles but I didn't want to take any chances. I also spent the weekend crunching numbers to see if I could make them work to where I'd be happy. I was able to get them where I wanted so I contacted the sales rep I had been dealing with and told him I wanted the car and would be making a trip from Ohio to get it. He informed me that they could only hold the car for a few days and that he'd try to extend that for me, but could make no guarantees. I even offered to put a deposit down but apparently they did not accept that (first I'd heard of a dealership not taking a deposit... ).

This all happened early in the week on a Monday. Given that I had already sold myself on the car, save for a final in-person inspection, I was worried that they may take the car off hold for me and sell to another potential buyer. I was supposed to have a friend drive me out to VA the next weekend to get it but I made the decision to take a rental car one way to Virginia and get the car myself and bring it home. I got my rental car from Hertz, which was supposed to be a Corolla or equivalent to save on gas out there, but instead they only had a Nissan Versa. I can't say how much I HATED that car: terrible ride position... couldn't get the seat back far enough, crank windows, and no cruise control... I knew it was going to be a long 500 miles lol.

I picked up the rental Wednesday night with plans to leave the next morning. I wake up Thursday at 4:30am and am on the road by 5:00am, on my way to Virginia. I actually made really good time on the way out there and the anticipation of getting the car really had me going. I got there around lunch time and met with the sales rep to do all the paperwork. I looked the car over and aside from a few small blemishes in the paint that I know could be buffed out (happening this coming weekend actually) and noticible hardtop latch rattles that I plan to fix, I was in love and ready to drive her home. My CR is actually the first one I had ever seen in person, typically I only see base models and have never seen a CR around town. It just had a great look to it and the blue really popped, I was so happy and ready to go

After getting the keys I was on my way and immediately noticed all the attention the car was getting lol. The blue is really quite different and stands out. Lots of people were rubber necking trying to look at the car and I even had a cop pass me by on my way home on the highway who was looking it over as well... clearly going to get good and bad attention with it . I took a route through some Pennsylvania backroads that were a lot of fun and I quickly remembered why I knew I needed to have another S2K.

I've since had the hardtop off a few times which is great (need to get a hoist for the garage) and my friends and family all love the car as well. I really could not be happier and have decided that this CR will be with me for the long haul... no one else will be buying this one from me. I'm really happy to be back and am glad that I found the CR with such low mileage... I never figured I would own one being the rare car that it is. My only regret now is that I've already started to rack up miles on her lol... but it's just so much fun to drive that I can't seem to leave it in the garage. Picked it up March 22nd with 8202 miles and it now has 10,120 as of 4/18/12.

Sorry I got a little long winded there! Looking forward to hearing other peoples stories and enjoyed reading the ones already posted. Happy driving !

Pic of when I first saw it at the dealership and picked it up... the crappy Versa rental I had is the silver car behind it :
