Perhaps I should have been more clear. On your stock for the light switches, there are 3 positions: 1) Off 2) DRL on and 3) Headlights on. In my MY08, positions 2 and 3 dim the dashboard so that it becomes hard to see in the daylight. Thus, it is only feasible to use position 1 in the daylight. Position 2 and 3 are only useful when it is dark outside. But when its dark outside, why would you choose 2 over 3? To save your HID bulbs?

Also, for the MY08 at least, position 1 turns on the inner most headlight of the assembly while position 2 turns on the orange light in the upper corner.

I'm not sure what you mean, they are always on.
Maybe whenever he doesn't want his DRLs on, he pushes his car everywhere he goes and he wants to know who else does this.

1. off

2. parking lights

3. headlights

DRL's are always on if you have it factory installed.

No, position 2 is not DRLs...it's parking lights

Position 2 is parking light not DRL, your DRL will always stays on as long as you don't use your lowbeam HID

Position 1 is the DRLs, not position 2. Position 2 is parking lights and is basically useless unless you're stranded on side of the road and want the car visible to traffic from behind but don't want to drain the battery too bad.

Those center lights are your hi-beams, which shine at partial intensity in DRL mode, and full intensity in lights-on/hi-beams-on mode.

DRL's - another example of the wussification of America.
