DBW Throttle could be better than a Cable

Every time I see a renewal of this discussion, I go out and drive my wife's Passat with DBW and each time, the lag from a dead start is still there. It used to be worse, but after 6 months of no action and then filing a BBB complaint against Volkswagen of America, they sent out an engineer to reprogram the ECU. That helped greatly, but sometimes the lag gives me enough time to eat half an In "N" Out burger before the car really starts moving (OK, maybe a small bite).
I have no way to determine whether Honda will have better throttle control software than VW and I hope they do for the sake of those folks who buy the '06 model. After my VW DBW experience and the failure of the stability ECU on my Mercedes (an almost $1K repair, I might add), I feel like I've donated enough R&D dollars to car manufacturers.
I've settled for the cable on my '05 and am quite happy, thank you.

Notice this line:

This would tell me that lag does exist.

This would tell me that lag does exist.
My TSX has DBW, and I can't say I particularly like it. The first quarter-inch or so of the pedal is too 'binary': you push it a little bit and nothing happens, and then bam you get power all of a sudden. My wife, who can drive several manual transmission cars, can't drive the TSX to save her life, because the gas is difficult to modulate.
One plus is that lifting your foot off the gas rapidly ikeeps the engine much smoother than doing so with a standard cable throttle.
When I do get an S2k, I'll go for an '02 or '03, so I won't ever have to find out what DBW does to the S2k's excellent throttle response.

My Sons fiance has an 05 Scion that is DBW. I have always been a heel / toe guy and always double clutch and rev match when shifting.
It's funny but this EC just doesn't understand what you are trying to do. Her's another weird one, the ECU is trying to "help" on upshifts. If you watch the tach as you accelerate, then just let off the gas and depress the clutch, every time you do this the ECU throttles the engine up 300 RPM. Does it every time.
It also seems that if come off of a main road say in to a neighborhood that you can feel the ECU trying to get that lean setting for fuel mileage but tends to make the car a little surgy.
