Default Dealer nightmare

Friday dropped off my Berlina for 30k service.....

Came back-noticed that the car had over 4 miles put on it. This is remarkable considering they would have had to drive 20 laps around the block to get to 4 miles.

The red paint on my block was destroyed. The paint is litterally hanging off around the oil cap. Some areas are shedding like a sunburn. It was NOT like that when I checked the oil two days earlier. The mgr said it was from their cleaning solvent. It worked like paint stripper.

They put in 5 w 20 oil (little window sticker)? Never even heard of that....must be the weight of water. Everyone knows 10w30 is recommended. I want them to take that oil out!

I mentioned the block and the manager was pretty nice. I think they will fix it. Regarding the oil, I almost feel like a guy sending food back in the kitchen. What's to keep them from getting annoyed by me and putting 5 w 30 back in? Maybe a little dirt to 'teach that kid a lesson".

What would you do?

first, i'd suggest changing your own oil. stories like this and from the past have convinced me not to trust anyone i don't personally or professional know well with my baby.

and then ... then, i'd just randomly start roughing up people at the dealership til i felt better about the situation. yeah. prob don't wanna take my advice, but this is all kinds of screwed up. i'd be VERY upset.

How irresponsible are they?

Solvent!!!!!!!!

I don't remember ever reading that destroying an engine's "like new" appearance was a standard part of the 30,000 mile service.

Shadow,

I said 5 w 20. I have never heard of such a thing!

Barry,

I told them point blank that this would really depreciate the car. Everyone looks at the engine before a purchase.

5w20 is slowly becomming a "general use" oil for a lot of the new cars but personally I would not use a 20 weight oil in the S. Go back and tell them to put in 10w30.

Only time I've gone to a dealer for my S was to get my hardtop installed and sparkplug tsb done. And even then, they managed to get my car misaligned and noticed 5 extra miles on my odometer. Got a free alignment out of that and never took my car to the dealer ever again. Do my own oil changes and have fellow s2ki members help me with the harder stuff.
