So, what to do?

They put in part # 8-01052-358-0, which a local Honda dealer just informed me is the diff. fluid used in Passports, CRV

How many miles? I don't think that Honda has a differential fluid for out cars. It is their only RWD car.

I competently perform the job for which I was trained (not a mechanic).

They did NOT competently perform the job for which they were trained (mechanic).

Is it really that tough to understand?

Wait, he took it to a Honda dealer and had them service his Honda. How does that make him stupid? Not everyone changes their own fluids. I don't see how having your vehicle serviced at the correct dealer is stupid at all. Lay off.

My thoughts would be that if something were going to happen, it would have happened by now. I wouldn't barge in insisting on a new diff.; that will just put them off and perhaps warrant bad service in the future. I would be inclined to do something only if you had a problem. However, if you're worried about it, you might take the reciept/paperwork showing the mistake in to the dealer and see if you could get the service manager to acknowledge the mistake and perhaps sign the receipt or a letter saying that you don't want anything done now, but that they are acknowledging their mistake and their responsibility to fix the diff. should something happen to it in the future.

Verifying if it is GL-5 or GL-6 should not be that hard. If it is, then it's fine.
