Default Dealer scratched window tint during auto down TSB.

What are my chances of them fixing it? They may claim that it is an aftermarket accessory, and, therefore they are not responsible for fixing it.

Thanks.

They have tinter working for them already, the odds are good. IMO. The way they have to move the glass around to install the windows regulator, it make sence that they could have damaged your tint.

Who cares if it's aftermarket. It wasn't messed up when they got it and they messed it up so they should fix it. I wouldn't wait long to complain them about it. That will make it more difficult.

Aftermarket has nothing to do with it. If you put your car in for a service and they break your CF hood they should still be responsible.

If they didnt scratch your tint but put a reasonable scratch in the glass Id be after a new window. Just be cool about it and they should be. If they aren't just let them know that for the small cost of fixing it they just lost any future business.

I'm with everyone else here - doesn't matter if it's aftermarket or not, if they damage anything in any way, it's their own fault and they have to make it right.

I think it's Grey area. The glass has to be completely removed from the door and it must be "squeezed" out of the opening.
The glass with the stops is wider than the opening. Plastic window tint is much easier to scratch than the glass window. Just ask the service manager nicely and they will probably fix it. If the tint wasn't on the window it wouldn't be scratched.

I had this happen right after I got my car in 2000. They couldn't tell I had tint on it... they reimbursed me after I got it replaced..

if the aftermarket part interferes with the service, then they have the option of declaring that they are not responsible for damage BEFORE they begin work or refusing to service the item. in this case, it's a TSB, and the window film was probably a hinderance to the completion of the job in the allowable time. they should have balked when you brought the car in, not after they give it back to you.

this is nothing like a CF hood getting damaged when they cahnge your oil. the hood isn't part and parcel of the job... it's just another body panel. if the service involved the nozzles, hood latch or something along those lines, then the concept would be similar.

good luck

I'd say check the fine print on the paperwork your service writer had you sign before you do anything.

He said that just this once they will fix it but usually don't.
How does this sound? "Truth be told, the window tint may have actually had something to do with the regulator being faulty. The tolerances are already pretty tight and the tint made it worse." He said something pretty damn close to that.

But they're stilll fixing it.
