Sucks to hear. I always have a phobia about that happening to me so i just give them the 1 and only key they need to the car. Keep my keycain and the rest of the keys on me. Glad they are being cool about it and working with you on it.

I'd swap the ECU just to be certain.

I always give just 1 key, but they took my keychain and didnt give any keys back. If I would have known that they were going to be gone when I got back from getting my rental car, I would have just given them 1 key

Sounds like you need some dtachable key rings:

I have this ring from Troika: http://www.troika.de/en/produkte/detail.php?id=24849

Minimalist design and I can easily detach my car key, fob, house keys, bike key, etc, when I don't need them. Lets me take just the keys I need and when I drop my car off, very easily take off my other important keys without losing a ring. Probably the best ring I've ever owned.

I typically have three rings attached - 1 for the car, 1 for the fob, and one for my house & bike. I can leave the car key in the car and just take my fob to lock the car - very simple and easy.

Of course, these are cool too - LED lights in them.. but where can I buy these buggers?

Make them pay for everything. New house locks, new car locks, new mailbox locks . hah. w/e it takes, demand shit and they'll give it to you. You cant ask, you have to be angry and demand it.

I'm not positive...Billman250 would probably know for sure...but I think you need a new ECU to keep the old key from working.
Not true. The EUC only holds X number or keys. When they programed the new keys, the old key were wiped out. You have to have all the keys in hand when you program the ECU. If not, any keys that are missing are lost.
