If 1/4 miles are what you want to do, there are better platforms then the S2000.

The answer is Evo (or some other turbo/high displacement, non-S2000 car).

I used to have an '01, now have an '06. I much prefer my AP2.....BUT....if my AP1 wasn't rear ended, I would have just kept it. I paid quite a bit more for my AP2 but honestly, the fun factor is nearly the same. Just depends how much you want to spend for a newer S.

ap2 owners love to say "8200."
thats because us ap1s have "9200" but everyone refers it to 9000.

Let me be clear here. Get ap2 if price isn't your concern. Get ap1 if ur tight with your budget. Look it's 2008 now. The newest ap1 you're gonna get is already 5 years old. Unless I find a MY03 in an excellent condition, I'd probably not bother for the peace of mind. IMO 800 rpm difference doesn't even come as close to compensate other benefits ap2 has. If you plan to dailydrive, ap2 is a no brain here.

Also, the whole big difference between the ap1 and ap2 is the red line.

No, the actual cut off on an AP1 is truly 9k, but AP2s cut out at 8.3k.

That's not true. The AP1 has an optomistic tachometer. The fuel cut is actually just BEFORE 9,000 RPM. Modifry has verified this while designing his "red line shift beeper," and it has also been verified via data logs that determine RPM indpendently from the cars ECU.

The extra revs do not make the car faster, but it is a major part of the character of the original that some people enjoy. Not everyone who has replaced an AP1 with an AP2 has been satisfied with the newer car, and a few have "downgraded" back to an AP1. It's extremely rare though, because most people are (apparently) more interested in a tiny performance increase than a major change in character. That doesn't include everyone though, as you can determine for yourself if you spend enough time with the S2kI search engine.

Yeah, its not torque, its gearing, that makes the real difference. You can put higher ratio gears in an AP1 to get more squirt though.
