S2Krazy: does having a hard top add any value??
elanderholm,

To a private buyer, yes. To a dealer, it depends on the dealer. Just show them what you paid for the hardtop and they should give you extra, probably 50%.

Around here (Salt Lake City) demand is pretty high. I looked at two used S2000's, both of which the dealers were asking MSRP for (one had 900 miles and the other 12,000!). I'm sure that they would come down on the price but the cars still seem to be in demand in this area (new ones are hard to find).

carcrazy,
i sure did buy from carmax. when i was originally looking honda dealers were asking 2-3 over msrp still, for a used one. i wont even go into what they were asking for a new one. so i checked w/carmax. at one point, around the country they had 15 s2000, all with less than 6,000 miles. they were all below msrp. mine was originally titled in wisconsin so i dont know if this was the one you drove.....

Qmah, yes that probably was the one. It was (and still is) a nice car...silver...it was a Wisconsin car. That was a good deal: just like new and a few thousand less. I decided I wanted yellow, though.

Hmmm, I'm from the Chicago area too (Hillside, in the western suburbs to be exact), and I'm thinking of getting a yellow S2K...
I was originally thinking of turning 25 first, so that insurance rates won't kill me. But after coming back from Japan, I've decided I might not want to wait that long
Send me a PM if you're selling.
Thank you.

I'm not selling, but insurance won't be that bad as long as you look around a bit. I don't know if they have allstate in chicago..that is who I use. I'm 24, two cars, 1 ticket, 100/300k coverage, 175/month. when my ticket comes off $120/month, when I turn 25 $90/month

In the East Bay of CA (San Francisco area) I went to trade my S2K and was told by the dealer they wouldn't give me any more than $26,000 and a friend offered me $27,000. It's a red on black 2000 w/19,000 miles. These cars are now sitting at dealers and supply has certainly caught up with demand. Kelly Blue Book is ridiculously high. They're posting trade in at or above retail new right now. Reason for me wanting to sell? I want a Viper.

PS I have it on Excite for sale: asking $29,999 and I've had no responses. They're an awesome car but the uniqueness is pretty much gone, I've counted 6-7 in Pleasanton already.

Also, you can't get a better price on Ebay as some cars on there are going for $26K.
