Thanks. I will do some searches on this mod. Might do the Kia route. Seems pretty cost effective right?
i've had the kia 4.77's in for about 9 months. I havn't had any problems and I love them. My S isn't my daily driver though so i don't mind the extra 1000 ( or so) RPM's for highway driving as someone might with the S as a daily driver. Rick's 4.77 gears come cryotreated (i belive) which increases the strength. So if your worried about them being weak then go for ricks....and get the reinforced differential as well.

Well.. how
is it to say "Yeah... I have KIA gears in my Honda S2000"
They will most likely answer "Did KIA buy Honda from HYUNDAI then?"

Sssst!
Please dont ever say that outloud again!
To be honest I think the manufacturer of the OEM 4.10 gears did a very good job.
After 119500 kms those gears still looked pretty good

As far as I can tell the diff oil was changed only once before I bought the car with 83000 km
so those gears can take some abuse.
Change every 40000 km is by the book. It was changed @ 47137 km.
IMO they did not change it before they sold it to me.
Stealerships......
It has been said that the S2000 stock gears come from the same manufacturer who makes them for Mazda.
Please dont ever say that outloud again!

mazda does in fact make kia and s2000 gears. and they are just as strong as the stock gears(same metal and manufacturing process)
I can tell you for a fact, the raw gears do look very differant. Also it is a fact that the Mazda and Kia both have less power and tourqe then the S2000. So for facts that is it.
Without some kind of metallurgical analysts would need to be done, but to date one has not been done. And the results of such has not been published.

That you have no proof of. The manufature could be the same, but again there is no way to know for sure, or to prove it. There is also no proof that the gears are manufactured the same (IE. metal and process). They do in fact fit and function. So they do share the same basic design.

Also while we had the stock gears out of the car we compared them to the kia gears and they were very similar.
