Default difference between air systems

Can someone tell me what would be the difference between installing the K&N air kit (short one) that sits on top of the radiator versus just taking the top off of the stock air box and installing a K&N air filter? I just don't see a difference in the 2. Can someone explain this to me? Just don't see spending over $250 on the K&N when it looks like it will do the samething. Thanks.

Both will reduce HP because it will injest hot air.

Get the K&N FIPK (since it has a heat shield it will reduce the hot air injestion), Comptech.

or a intake that fits in the bumper, ie: AEM V1, V2 - K&N Tornado, Fujita F5

Or put a K&N filter in the stock air box and keep the lid ON (maybe add a spoon snorkel)

Both the K&N and stock air boxes get their cooler air from the same source. A K&N FIPK is a smaller air box and its walls are thinner, so you can hear the intake sound clearly. A K&N in the stock box offers the same filtering, but the sound is more muffled.

The stock box is better sealed against the engine bay than the K&N, and a single K&N filter and recharge kit costs a lot less than the FIPK. If you run a stock air box with the lid off, the intake will pull more hot air in from the engine, and performance will be reduced.

People say the FIPK adds 8-10 hp and provides better throttle response than the stock sealed box, but imo a K&N in a stock box should do the same or better as the seal is better. If you want the sound and don't need all the power, just remove the lid and enjoy the sound.

Thanks for the input. I was afraid of the hot air coming in and reducing power. Problem is I can't find a cold air system that fits the 2007. No one lists a fitment. Thanks for your response.

they all fit

pretty sure the only difference is on the 06+ cars you plug a nipple where a hose would have gone on the 00-05 cars.

07 models come in 2.2L as well as 2.0L

So when you go out and shop for a new Air Intake, make sure you get the appropriate one!

One with a heat shield is always good. my personal advice is dont get a system that would require alot of modification to your car!
