Default DIFFERENTIAL: help!

Hi,

It is about time for me to change the rear differential fluid. However, I do need a few questions answered from you gents.

1) The manual says to use SAE 90W, but that weight is no longer much available. A salesman at a local automotive supplies store recommended to use 75W or 80W, because they are more superior than the 90W besides not being able to find the 90W anyway. Do any of you see any problem with using 75W or 80W?

2) Should I use the synthetic gear oil instead? As similar in engine oil, the synthetic is much more superior in protection and performance. Again, is there any problems I should be aware of by using synthetic differential oil?

3) It is recommended to put in 0.81 U.S. quarts. Does this seem right? It seems too little to me.

Well, please answer those if you could. If it upsets you that I ask these simple questions, I would have to ask a Honda tech then. Thanks!

You might want to try looking under in the "Under the Hood" forum. Check the FAQ thread posted at the top of the forum. Also the search will yeild numerus threads of this topic, as well as a "How to" thread.

Now that I am off my soap box, I use Mobil 1 in mine.

Thanks! I was going to look under "Under the Hood" section, but then I thought the diff is technically not under the hood.

Ah, the wonderful world of the search feature. I should've used it. Sorry for that! Please delete this thread if necessary. Thanks!
