Suddenly, since two days ago I started to notice a problem in my '02 S2000.
I am going straight in the car, when I hit the gas the car starts to move to the right (a little bit). If I release the gas the car tends to keep straight ( as it should be). For instance, If I'm in the highway and hit the gas, the car moves to the right lane at the regular rate we change lanes on the highway. It is kind of a throttle steering.
The car feels very unstable in the highway . . It only has 3600 miles.
First and most simple thing to check... tire pressure. Make sure both sides are at an even 32 psi cold. If either one of your tires are low on air, it can cause the problem you described. I had the same thing happen to me. Low and behold, I had a nice large screw in the tire from which air was slowly leaking..
I just checked the tire pressure, and realize that RR tire was at 10 psi and LR tire at 30 psi. I run 36 psi at the front wheels and 32 at the rear. This is an advice that I took from this forum to make the steering feels and act quicker.
A difference in rear tire pressure or a new rear tire and an old rear tire will make the car pull one way or the other when you accelerate or decelerate.
I blew a tire at 2500 miles and lived with a minor pull until all the tires were worn out 8500 miles later.
Then I experienced the low pressure case 300 miles after I put the new set on. Unfortunately, I had run over a 1/4" diameter screw and it came out while I was on the freeway, so the tire was completely flat before I could get off at a safe point. At least I was able to buy just one new tire to replace the shredded one and still keep good handling.
If I ever notice my car doing that again, I'm stopping immediately so I can find out what's wrong before wrecking another $200 tire!
