Mine has done it but i just put the clutch in. What is this MAP wack? you just hit the sensor? lol
Yeah just search Map Whack and you will see it. I guess dirt and such can build up on the sensor and cause it to mis-read. You aren't suppost to just barely tap it, or just try to break it. I use the handle of a screwdriver and smack it a few times, and there you go!

Hopping like that is all driver error. Usually it's caused by letting off the clutch too quickly or dropping it just as it's about to fully engage while not giving the engine enough rpms to engage smoothly from a stop in 1st gear. this happens frequently on low torque cars with inexperienced drivers or drivers used to more low end torque.
No It's not driver error. Mine does this when the car is already moving in first gear like driving around a parking lot on low speeds (10mph) in first gear then it starts acting up so I just press the clutch again.

Yeah it can be caused my driver error, but mine would usually do it after I have all the pressure off of the clutch like ap1 George said. So that has nothing to do with the driver. Also I tried giving it a little more gas when it would do that and it just made it worse. I just push in the clutch, let off again and it goes fine.

See, this is the confusing part. Some guys say it's driver error (and xviper seems to agree with that more or less) and some guys think it's a mechanical thing.

Honestly--I learned to drive stick on an s2000, and it's been the only car I've driven manual. But out of the handful of AP1s I've driven, this is the only one that has done this to me (3 times within a 30 minute test drive). The hopping feeling is definitely different from the shaking cuz it's gonna stall feeling. But I love this particular car, it's in mint condition, but I'm worried.

(1) Should I pass?
(2) Or is this an easy fix?
(3) Or do all AP1 s2000's have this AND it's a matter of technique?

*sigh*

Well obviously some of us have a completely different problem than you. Of course the car will jump if you let off the clutch way fast without giving it gas, ect.. This isn't my first stick car, and I have been daily driving my s2000 for over 2 years. I know what my s2000 does and doesnt do. Thanks for your reply though..

Yeah it's only happened to me maybe 4-5 times since i've had my s2000.

To the OP, if your serious about buying it, try the map whack on it then test drive it again and see if it still does it.

this hopping however must not be confused with the hopping that is caused on some early model ap1's due to the weak connection with the map sensor...which is an easy fix
