The initial bog could be MAP related or heat soak. I'm leaning more towards heat soak.

I have driven many manual cars and I KNOW the feeling when my foot causes the "kangarooing" effect. This happened to me the other day in traffic and I can tell you that it is not caused by driver error. There is really an issue with this and until all of you who think it is caused by driver error experience it, you will never know what the rest of us are talking about. Hate to admit it but this is "car error"

It seems that those experiencing an actually "BOG" seem to own 2000 or 2001 MY AP1's..... I wonder if this is more common with those years? I have never once experienced this bogging of the engine at low rpms with MY2002 in the 30,000 miles I've driven it.

My '02 suffered from heat soak. It would also kangaroo if I let it. I didn't let it.

Again....driver error. C'mon, it's not that difficult to prevent.

So an AP2 has heavier flywheel than AP1 ?
AP2s do not kanguru ?!

didn't know that...
15 lbs AP1
21 lbs for an AP2
Heavier flywheel has benefits at low RPM on a 4 cylinder. There are only 2 power strokes per crankshaft rotation with a 4 cylinder engine versus 3 for a 6 cyl, 4 for an 8 cyl and 6 power strokes per revolution on a V12 - where a flywheel is required primarily to link the engine, clutch, and gearbox together and not as a torque resevoir as needed on a 4 banger. Think about it - makes a lot of sense and explains the low rpm. low gear, low speed pogo issues.

didn't read most of the thread but i think i have the same problem and yes it's driver oriented. i don't think i've driven a stock ap2 to really see if my car is different b/c i have a light flywheel but when i first bought the car it would bounce back and forth a lot.

i noticed it happens around 1-4 mph so if i'm rolling slowly in a parking lot or something and the car's hitting 4-5 mph i just clutch in and lightly engage it again if i need to move again. just don't let the car fall between 1-4 mph and it won't bounce...

For what it's worth, i think there are two different problems discussed in here..

1. Kang Hoppin'
2. Boggin' (initial throttle from start/stop application is "bogged" when you take off)

I have problem 1 and 2, but think 1 isn't a problem, and that 2 is. 1 being drivetrain, you live with it it's sensitive when u ride low speed gear ones, 2 being something to do with heatsoak, because it drives like there's some sort of VAC leak when you have a split hose on a turbo car.. Doesn't let u boost sort of feeling.. Hard to explain though I know a few people will agree with me.

I get the same exact feeling as you, like the turbo isn't kicking in lol. This only happens when i'm doing 1-4mph, haven't really checked it out as i know most of the s2k's I've been in have had this problem.
