I don't see to many S2000's at drift competitions around southern California. Do any of you guys do drifting? Also would you say that the S2000 is a "good" drifting car?

Just for reference I'm considering the S2000 and 350z as my next car.

I slide mine around all the time, but nothing like those drift shows. The stock tires will bite you if you're not careful. But my snows are a ton of fun, they break away very smoothly. If you're looking to compete wouldn't you be better off with an older car? Why slide around a 30k car and take risks with it?

S02's wear out too quickly to burn them down by drifting.

Yes, I sometimes get the tail out at AutoX events and even on the streets, but these tires are expensive and will vanish quickly if you do that.

I'd like to drift, but tires are expensive. Min. 600 per set.

I went to one drifting competition in the "S". It tore up my SO2's. The outer groves on the front tires were pressing up by the end. I will never do that again in this car. I would prefer to have a older car for this.

Ideally you want a car with a lot of grunt on the low end for drifting. It makes it a lot easier to hang the ass end out at will; it's a lot harder with the S than say a turbo Silvia or a Supra for example.

I'm not looking to compete, I just want to do it for fun. Maybe if I get good I'll compete. Yes tires cost money but my friends know many people at many tire companies such as falken, goodyear, dunlop, etc. I can get tires cheap. I love the S2000 and was just wondering what your opinions on drifting the S is. I know that low end is good for drifting but was wondering if you guys got around it somehow. Also I believe in one of the Best Motoring Videos, Tsuchiya Keiichi aka the Drift King said that the S2000 was a great car for drifting, saying that it was like the Corolla ae86 aka hachi roku rebuilt with a million yen or something like that.

Yeah! The infamous Hachi Roku. That car is bad ass for drifting.

drifting is pointless, just extra wear and tear and makes you slower in road races.
