Default do i need to double-clutch on a s2k?

when trying to a rev-match down shift, do i need to double-clutch?

double-clutch
1) press the brake w/ right foot
2) fully press the clutch w/ left foot
3) shift into netural
4) let clutch out and toe-heel to rev-match
5) press clutch w/ left foot and shift into 1 gear lower
6) toe-heel and let out clutch to finish the down shift

simple rev-match
1) press the brake pedal w/ right foot
2) fully press the clutch w/ left foot
3) while clutch pedal is being pressed, shift into 1 gear lower
4) toe-heel to rev-match, let out clutch to finish down shift

which one is correct? (or both are wrong )
pros and cons?
teach me how to properly down shift!

(i am currently doing double-clutch w/ my corolla cause the sychros for 1st and 2nd are pretty much gone. but i can do simple rev-match w/ my s2k cause it's much easier to shift) ...

no need to do double-clutch to preserve the sychros of the new transmission?

You don't need to double clutch because we have double and triple cone syncro's, but it is a good idea to rev match when you put it in gear and engage the clutch, otherwise the S2000 tends to jerk a little.

Rev-match or you'll become friendly with your service dept. sooner than you'd like for a clutch replacement.

On the downshifts, I only heel toe and rev match.

On the upshifts, I will double clutch when I am skipping gears going up or when the transmission is cold.

The purpose of syncros (or syncronized gearing) is to obviate the need to double clutch while still preventing missed shifts and gear grinding. Let 'em do their job. They're better at it!

Except when they are cold... or if you are trying to match a significant difference in engine speeds to gear speeds (skipping gears).

A few times when I've been running my car very hard on back roads with a lot of shifting I've had a horrible grind on the 3rd to 2nd downshift. It was so bad I thought I hadn't engaged the clutch. So now, when I'm running hard, I double clutch the 3-2 downshift all the time.

BTW, rev matching is done with the clutch pedal in (funny things happen when you try to rev match with the car in gear )

Quick Reply: do i need to double-clutch on a s2k?
