Do you double-clutch?
Jeff and RT,
That's what I wanted to get at. Is this wear and tear thing like 50K miles or 500K miles? So I take it the synchros last a while even if you abuse it with many 6th to 3rd downshifts at high speeds.
I guess you would do it to be smoother.
Thanks for the education, fellas.

Double declutching is no quicker & probably increases clutch wear as much as it reduces cog box wear. As UKPaul asserts, blipping between downchanges has a similar effect.
The crux is, in fast driving, smoothness. Especially when you have to downchange over 6K to keep it on the boil. Jerky gearchanges stress the driveline & more importantly, upset weight distribution & traction. This car does not suffer fools gladly, so correct technique is essential to keeping the pointed end in front.
This is basically why racing drivers, bikers etc, use double decluthcing/clutchless change techniques. It also improves one's enjoyment when done correctly.
Practice & form your own opinions!

SpaceNeedle,
When downshifting the revs must be matched.
You have two basic schools of thought:
1)the ones who can heel & toe & double-clutch smoothly think it is the best way, even on modern cars.
2)the others don't.
