I do it all the time, probably by habit than by reason. The older manuals I've had required it for smooth downshifts, even though they also had syncros. Is it needed? No. But I feel that doubleclutching is smoother than not, even in the S2K. And it sounds cool ripping through the gears going form 6th entering a 2nd gear turn.
