I think there is an issue with the top down all the time where the elastic straps will wear out sooner because they are stretched all the time, but that's all I've heard.
It's funny that you mention that. My top was in perfect condition untill a month ago then I noticed there is a wear where the latch sit and rub against the fabric(top down). Further investigation I noticed the bar that sit behind the plastic wind buffer screen was about 6" higher than it suppose to be so there for putting additional stress on the latch and fabric. Took it Honda and got a new top under warrantee. But if this happen again next year then I am sh*t out of luck.

I do the same thing, leave it down in the garage. Id be more worried of wearing it out putting it up and down unneccesarily than leaving it in one position
My top goes up and down all day for 5.5 years. It still looks like new. Just take care of it.

I Will I put additional stress on the top if I leave it down 16 hours a day ? Everyday ? I noticed that the top latch rest pretty firmly against the top fabric in the down position. Wear hole later down the road ?
Remember that for those who live in wetter climates the hardtop may be on for months at a time with the roof folded. So I guess it can put up with it without any problems.

However on the off chance I followed advice and stuck bit of thick tape to the point where the roof preses firmly against the struts.

NOt in your avatar

If I had a nice clean well sealed garage I would just leave it down.
I've washed the car with the top down too...but detailing needs a top up approach
