parts on the mg are not worth stealing and the car is not worth a ton of money.

if my S were always unlocked, i'd be afraid that at some point somebody would pop it in neutral and try rolling it onto a flatbed to gut it if i left it unlocked all the time.

i work graveyards and i get a bit paranoid since my work place is somewhat isolated so i come out every few hours just to see if my car is still there. oh and not locking your car is just plain stupid.

After getting my top slashed on my miata (to steal a bag of Ruffles and a pair of Dragon sunglasses no less) I started leaving it unlocked so there would be no need to destroy my precious new top. I just made sure there was nothing of value in it.

The S on the other hand got an alarm with a 2-way pager within a couple weeks of me buying it. It stays locked all the time and I hang the key and remote on a thumbtack on my wall. If it gets messed with in the middle of the night the vibrating/beeping will wake me up so I can go check on things.

When my car was stock, I never locked it. It saves your top.

Yes, I lock my car. If I park top down I'll lock the center console if not the doors.

A bit judgemental, don't you think. I would rather think it a preference or matter of personal choice. But then, you may be a highly intelligent person. Thanks for the input.

In NJ, NY, (and possibly NY), if your car isn't locked and it is stolen, it won't be covered if the INS company can prove it wasn't locked. Sounds stupid but thats the way it is, though you'll never hear about it.

So yes all my cars are always locked.

While I get it in theory, how the hell can they prove this unless you are dumb enough to admit it? Also, I'm pretty sure that in any state, if you tell your insurance company the car was unlocked/keys were in it/it was running, you are going to be SOL.
