I have one in my van and one in my S2000. I've never gotten a ticket in my S2000, either one, my '01 Silverstone, or my recently purchased '05 Suzuka. I did get one in my van about 5 months ago on a surface street. I had my stereo up so loud I don't know if the detector went off or not, but I didn't think I was going fast enough for a ticket.

For my normal driving, the detectors are only useful on highway 14 north of Mojave. I don't think our CHP use radar on the freeway normally (too many cars around) and I mostly drive the freeways, but they are useful when I'm out in the sticks on a 2 or 4 lane road.

I have a Passport 8500. I feel naked and very uneasy without mine either. I move it from car to car also. I would have gotten the Valentine, but when the hell are they gonna update the look of it. Its big and old fashion looking. They need some digital arrows.

By the way, the V1 sucks at night.
Uhh...how so? Radar isn't affected by light to the best of my knowledge, and my V1 has always worked fine at night.

Anyway, had a V1 for ~4 years, a passport 7500 before that, and an older passport before that. Only had one ticket ever.

I like my V1, but I think that the passport 8500 has gotten equally good reviews for considerably less money.

Passport 8500 user here. I'm sure it has saved me a couple of times, but most of all, I just like to know when I'm being watched.

The passport 8500 is almost always in my S but seldom in my Ranger.

100% all the time. V1 hardwired in the S, and an 8500 in the element that is portable to any other car i may be driving for more than a day (sister's TL).

i feel naked without one!

Use the BEL Pro RX65 hard wired in and on all the time. It paid for itself in the first week.
Lot of info on the web. Came down to the BIG 3: , Valentine 1 ( kinda big & akward looking, supposedly pop-mode challenged but greater sensitvity and no programing ability, expensive but the directional arrows and bogey counter can be helpful ) Passport 8500 and BEL RX65 ( both almost exactly the same test results, program ability to stop false x in my very urban area with the cops on k-band and radar) Went with the BEL got a good deal brand new on E-Bay.
